My restored and repaired CDTV :)
My CDTV has been rotting in my Mums loft in the UK for the past 10 years or so. Seeing as I have well and truly got the Amiga bug again, on a visit over here to Denmark this April, I asked her to bring it over in a suitcase (along with my old A1200).
When I turned it on I was faced with a black screen. I opened her up and found lots of calx and general nastyness. It seemed she had suffered a bit of moisture damage over the years, poor girl. I've spent the last few months at work (between jobs) bringing her back to life. I replaced several IC sockets and a poorly looking Agnes and also given the whole board a general clean and re-coating with laquer here and there. I also found the major culprit for her not booting, a rotten track under the CPU that had open circuit. So now im feeling all proud and decided to show her off to you all |

Awesome work! I've no talent for such things but it does my heart good to see someone lovingly restore such a great machine so that it may continue to give enjoyment!

Cheers Guys
I'm going to treat her to some goodies soon too to celebrate. Mini Megi and Indivision SD/FF to start with. I'd like to get some kind of CF card/HD solution in there too and maybe a CPU upgrade and fast RAM (If I can ever find these), and i'm toying with the idea of upgrading to 3.1, but I hear some further ROM upgrading is needed before I can plug in a 3.1 ROM. I also wonder if the standard CDTV software will run ok on 3.1?... I need to do some research there |

Very nice that you resurrected her from death
Speaking of removing IC sockets, what's the best solution? Desoldering braid or desoldering pump? I find it hard both ways :/ |

Generally pump, but sometimes I need a bit of braid just for the odd stubborn node. I have both handy. I agree that it can be tricky with both, but getting the correct diameter tip on the pump and cleaning it regularly usually gives it the edge. I always reflow old solder and sometimes use fresh solder on the braid whilst its laid on a stubborn node too. It took me some time an patience especially with the PLCC sockets, have to be really careful not to break any of those old tracks!

Cheers I'm going to leave the keyboard alone now i've fixed it. If i'd not then maybe the keys would have found their way into my A1200 (and a black spray job). I'm going to leave the 1200 white. I got a new keyboard with nice white keys and thats made it look so much prettier so it would be a shame I think.

That must have been a Jurassic Park moment for you when she fired up for the first time. I'm dead jealous, that's one machine I always wanted.

Ah thats a real shame I think the CDTV looks classy. The "black sheep" of the Amiga family in a way, far ahead of its time. If it came out a few years later with a better hardware spec it would have fared better I think. |

What's possible then with regards upgrading these? I've just managed to pick one up and am curious.

Yeah that page is great for CDTV resources, I've had it in my bookmarks for a while I think its possible to hack some A500 Accelerators into the CDTV. I would really like to try and get a 030 in there somehow |
