Sounds like you played p&p RPGs before I liked being the DM (especially if there was more to it than managing the hoardes of monsters that attack the players). You learn a lot about how to tell a (good) story and to react to stuff that you never thought about (a thing that almost every RPG still lacks). Was nice to see that a good DM designed the game. You can certainly sense it in the way it plays

@Graham
Thanks

You will need luck and/or money to get a copy these days. It's a shame.

I think it was re-released it...at least for awhile, anyway.

Planescape: Torment is easily one of the best games I have ever played, if not the best. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Ditto. It's well worth trying to find. I've seen it at thrift shops and such before. I think I have an extra copy I'd be willing to trade/sell if you can't find it by other means.

You need to read quite a bit, as most text isn't voiced, but it's worth it. Have fun cosmic

I've never been able to find a good copy either. I suppose you could shell out for it on eBay, though I hesitate to do that. I do not want to see a "collectors' market" building around classic games and try to fight it when I can, even though it's likely a losing battle. I saw the same thing happen with comic books back in the 90s. When I was a kid, I could go to any yard sale or flea market and buy bags or boxes of old comics for a few bucks. Eventually, though, the public got this idea that every old comic was valuable and that they should either horde them or sell them at ridiculous prices. Pretty soon you had to be rich just to collect. Now I see the same thing happening with games. How much longer before you won't be able to buy any old games for a cheap price because the owners will assume (wrongly or rightly) that they're extremely valuable? It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, too, but the bubble will eventually pop. This usually happens when the public swarms in and ignorantly invests large amounts of money into something they care nothing about in hopes of a quick cash-in.

So, my advice (FWIW) is to sell or giveaway (gasp) your old games or hardware only to friends and for a cheap, friendly price. Try not to make this into a collectors' market. It will be better for everyone if it's just a nice community of people who love this stuff, not a bunch of outsiders trying to game the system.

Anyway, I digress. I've been out of town and sadly must be out of town again this weekend. I still need to post the other Chris A. videos, and just completed an amazing interview with Sean Cooper. In other words, so much great stuff in the pipe! It's going to be a great summer once all of these conferences are over.

I have to admit, I haven't played it either.
I had a chance to pick it up a while ago, but for some reason, I read the title as:
PlanetScape not PlaneScape..

So, I thought it was some sci-fi title, and I'm not as into sci-fi RPGs...

Now that I know what it is, I need to give it a go!

Thanx for the interview!!

Don't get me wrong. I have one. Bought it on a games mag for 7 bucks.
But I know a lot of people who want it.

It seems like we will have to wait for the next part. Btw, did it ever occur to you that Brian Moriarty is a former Infocom and Lucasfilm employee? (Hint, hint.)

Wow! That would be a great interview. A friend and I have been tossing the idea around about a book looking at the competition between Sierra and Lucasfilm. We talked to Al Lowe, though, who said it was all professional. Not much story there, then. I had gathered things had gotten a bit more edgy.

I read somewhere that Lucasfilm and Sierra had a meeting of some kind in the early days of Scumm, and that Lucas' crew was duly respectful because Sierra was their role model. Can't remember where that was, though. So there's nothing to be seen here. Please move on. (But maybe Jane Jensen has some dirty secrets to tell. )

EDIT:
A 2 hours talk by David Fox about Lucasfilm Games in which he mentions Sierra a few times and even Amiga.

Also on Youtube in lower quality.

(Sorry for being OT, but as long as there are no news on Mr. Avellone...)

LOL, no worries, Gilgamesh! I actually prefer it when other people post about it. Shows that people are enjoying the program.

I have quite a bit of material from Mr. Cooper. It should be refreshing to have a British accent on the show.
