Testing a "new" BBoAH

Hi @ all,

I'm testing a PHP-based software for the BBoAH. I would like to hear what you think about. The "look" is not ready and searching by manufacturer not available. You can switch between German/English down on the left side.

@Novamann

I have a lot of hope for this project, it will certainly bring the BBoAH up todate in web technology terms, I would like to see a multi-national approach with a selectable english / german / spanish etc.

This project is a long time comming for BBoAH I wish you the best of luck with it

An excellent start.

I look forward to upcoming progress with regard to improved site design & usability...
...I'm sure you won't but don't forget the BBoAH is liable to be viewed by some pretty out of date browsers - testing.

Regards.

Hello,
the "new" ist tested with IBrowse 2.4 and AWeb 3.4 and 3.5. The programmer of the soft is helping me to change the CSS-colors to changeable colors for our old amiga-browsers.

Languages are easy to change, for the moment only German/English, but more languages are no problem with this soft.

Main reasons for this are: it can run on most every webspace with no problems. In the past I had a lot of problems with PERL functionality at some hosters. The built-in editor is much more easy to use so that updates will be no problem in the future. At the momet it is something like

I hope that the look of this CSS-based soft can be changed to whatever is needed so that the "old" black and white will be possible to.

Regards

I must admit, I like the black backgrounds, it's easier on the eyes. Looking good

Any chance of either going back to the old BBoAH or optimising the output for a larger screen size.

It is sooo much harder to navigate. The layout is too small. On a 1280x1024 screen 1/5th is not used!

Users are not interested in the right hand window (The newest 30 entries) once they have started browsing, it just eats up space in the viewing window.

I do not like the "Author field" which suddenly now reads "Novaman" for almost all pages regardless of who contributed to them in the past.

Where has the reference to Ian Chapman gone from the front page? He is the founder of BBoAH and should not be forgotton!

Hm Interesting as i'm using the same resolution but the whole screen is used. Maybe its browser dependant but with opera everything is fine.

I'm using Firefox 3.0 and you can see the 1/5th not used.

Scroll a little bit down, find a better soft.

I asked you last year and got no reply. It's not helpfull not to talk with me. I Think there can be made changes for everything. The screen is something like dynamic to the content in the middle.

I just wanted this thing as much compatible as possible to Aweb and IBrowse.

Regards

On my A2000 and A3000 with Eizo 15" @ 1024 x 768 it fits perfectly. And most of the people I know use smaller, windowed screens, not full screen. If its possible to change this I can beg the author of the programm and he will eventually change it.

It's dynamic, gets smaller if needed, bigger if the middle-content allows.

Its the name of that one who made the work. If you wrote the entry your name would be there. The Contributors are standing at the end of the article as before.

Ian Chapman is still founder and his name stands at the home/news screen as he did before. Whats your problem?

?? Surely it should be dynamic to the size of the browser screen?

It seems to be hard coded to 1024x768 as a maximum.

I don't think the majority would agree with you. Or maybe they would?

Yes, but you seem to have inherited most of the pages. The content of which were created by Ian and others before you took over.

Perhaps it is a browser thing but it was not visible when I posted yesterday. Seems fine now. Maybe I just missed it.

We really appreciate all the hard work you are putting in and there is bound to be a transitional period as the changes filter through and changes are made.

Edits that I remember doing last year seem to have been lost.

The "FlickerMagic" page for example.

It still says "There appears to be two versions of this device, depending on the version you have it either clips onto the Lisa Chip, or the Alice chip." Which is wrong.

[EDIT:] It's because there are two entries. ID #3252 and ID #1635, one has my changes and the other doesn't.

Why are there two entries? Was one supposed to be in German? Both are written in English.

If you did a little testing we wouldn't have to talk about the other points.
I had to make changes. So I had to do it of my own. There had been enough time before for discussions. Now I'm out of time due working and changes are not so fast to do.

As I made the entries, it may be possible that I made mistakes. Maybe, I'm only human not a perfect god. I made 3643 entries. Everybody can count, if he wants.

Re: Hi
No problem,
had to a lot other things, too, so that many new entries are waiting.

If you want you may have a look at a new PHP-based BBoAH.

http://www.amiga-resistance-info/bboahfaq

by adding xxxxx you can enter the Admin-Center of that soft.
