Question PC to Amiga via CD?

I was talking to someone today and they told me that if I put files onto a cd using a PC that I could use them straight from the CD with the Amiga.

Is this true?

Is there a limit to the size cd i use? 650 or 700 MB?

Thanks!

Well, it depends on the Amiga. It wouldn't be feasible on an A500.

I run an A1200 in a tower case. It has a Power Flyer interface from Power Computing, which gives the A1200 more IDE capabilities. I use a x24 IDE CD-ROM and an IDE CD-Writer attached to the Amiga. I can then read CDs that I've written on the PC or vice versa.

The size of the CD shouldn't matter, as long as the CD-ROM can read it.

Hey Cody, why not on an A500? If he finds one of those A590 drives, shouldn't that drive read the PC CDs perfectly?

(he can also add an IDE interface to the 500, but that'd be overkill )

You also have to make sure your Amiga CD file system is capable of reading Joliet format CDs. If it can't, then you have to burn them in ISO 9660 format on the PC.

Question

Tonight I will be picking up a cd drive, that the current owner says will read a cd created using the PC. I beleave he did say it was an A590.

What is the best Amiga model for adding and expanding?, for example CodyJarrett's A1200 has a x24 IDE CD-ROM and an IDE CD-Writer attached.

Also would these drives be standard "PC" compatable drives? or are they modified in someway?

Cool CD

You'll need an A500 for the A590 CD drive. The only problem is that unless the A500 is upgraded with memory and a hard disk it will be more difficult using files from CDs. I only use my A500 for running old games and using the Action Replay.

I think that the A1200 is a pretty expandable machine, especially since all the bits that have been made for it since its release, which allow it to use better hardware e.g. my expanded IDE ports.

My drives are just standard PC components.
