ACA1221ec and MapROM feature

Hi Folks

I have just picked up an ACA1221ec card and have a query relating to the MapROM tool. I am only interested at this point in mapping my internal ROM. Do I need to run this tool in my startup sequence or not, as there is conflicting information provided:


In the short manual that came with the card is states:

'The fast memory of the ACA1221ec is automatically added using autoconfig. Your accelerator comes with 9MByte fast memory. If you set the jumper to “MapROM”, a copy of your Kickstart ROM is created in a reserved space of fast memory, increasing execution speed of your system. This does not require any additional software.'


However in the software for the card that I have downloaded from their wiki page (ACA1221V1_2Beta1) it has an application for mapping the ROM

From the readme:

"ACAMapROM is a little tool to map the internal Kickstart ROM of your machine or any other compatible kickstart image to the 32bit RAM of your ACA1233n or ACA1221(EC)." .... "ACAMapROM supports 256KB, 512KB and 1MB Kickstart ROM images. It must be run from shell, as first command of your startup-sequence. By default (when being called without any options) it will map the contents of your physical Kickstart ROM to 32bit RAM, speeding up the execution of system routines (most notably file accesses) significantly."


Which is correct?

I guess both. 1: Physical KS ROM is copied to MapROM automatically (like Blizzard A1200 accelerators do). 2: Utility is needed if you want to load ROM images from disk/hd or copy physical KS ROM if automatic MapROM is disabled.
