Wrath of the Demon longplay

EDIT EDIT EDIT

Re-recorded this game as my old longplay looked like crap... had no idea how to properly encode videos back then.
The new one is in 'HD'... looks pretty sweet. However, it has issue with the scrolling.. it keeps jerking, kinda. Some Youtube issue, the videos are fine here... but oh well.

Always fun to watch longplays, no exception this time around...

However, I must admit that, to me, the game looked beyond dull to play. Looking at the gameplay it looks like something sprung out of 1984, let say something like [ Show youtube player ] with a twist (really monotonus and repetative).

From a technical point of view (the graphics and the effects such as the parallax scrolling) it looked nice, but there isn't the slightest chance of me ever spending more than like 10 minutes with a game like this. No, believe it or not... I actually hadn't seen or heard of Wrath of the Demon before i watched this longplay.

What are the differences in the CDTV version? Is it much better? In that case, can you rip it?

The "shadow of the beast" style music in this game by David Whittaker is again brilliant.

Not to be-little Tim Wrights SOTB2 music but I would have preferred it if DW had worked on beast 2 rather than this game

It's not that important if it's identical. Thanks for offering to do it though, I appreciate that!

Nice! Better to see this game being played than actually play it yourself

Yes, if I remember correctly it's possible to stuck in one level if you use spell "blink-and-walk-over-big-spikes" in wrong moment.

Great looking longplay. I think deactivating the HD option will offer the advantage of less stutters in YT, without harming the video quality.

I have a few remarks on the game itself :
Why does the character disappears when he hits certain sprites after the horse riding round, in the cavern (the cave, or whatever) ?

Why did they waste a game with such a good potential with awkward gameplay ? Let me explain :

First, there is no energy bar for bosses. And sometimes, it's hardly noticeable the monster has been it by the barbarian's sword.
Would it have been too difficult for them to at least make all the bosses blink upon each hit ?

Also, I don't dig the character energy bar. the ligthen dots mean the energy that's left to him ?
And concerning the inventory part, for what use as the different potions collected ?

This being said, the game keeps us hanging on, like we want to know what will happen on the next round, and the "demo-like" drawings from the static screens, in between rounds, are cool.

Because the game runs at 50 FPS while the video on Youtube runs at 25 FPS.
When you're hit, you'll blink really fast... every frame at 50 FPS. So when you only get every second frame, you'll either disappear completely or not blink at all when hit.

Yeah, I hate games that runs at 50 fps and has flickering when a character gets hit. Then when it's converted to 25fps on YT, the flickering effect turns to invisibilty cuz it usually cuts away the frames where the character is showing.

This is ofc only a problem with YT due to their low framerate. People should download our movies instead :P

But it's to my understanding that with the HD option, it KEEPS the original movie's fps.

I have upped a 40fps movie that runs fluidly on YT. With 40fps as original converted to 25fps should give noticable hickups in the framerate/motion, but it's not. So I think it keeps the original fps for HD movies at least, or mine would be choppy, and it's not.

No its not, and damn David Whittaker for being such a cop out prick and just use the same samples as Shadow of the Beast for this game.

Those samples are so ingrained as the Beast 'sound', and he's a first class lazy twat for not bothering to change them for something else.

I don't hear Wrath of the Demon, I hear a bad Shadow of the Beast rip off sound track.

He pulled the same bloody trick with Licence to Kill the James Bond game, same Beast samples, what an absolute joke!

Clearly he just loaded up his old Beast work, spent about 20 minutes on rejigging it and then watched the money come rolling in.

No doubt the design for the music was 'Beast inspired', but surely that didn't actually mean Beast remix!?!?!?

If I was heading that development team i'd have told Whittaker to sort it out and make the music for Wrath of the Demon good in its own right, not have people say "just like Beast, only worse!"

It's good composition, if I remember correctly someone from EAB made very good remix with his piano.
