3.1 CDROM support
OK, it's been a while, but I thought that KS/WB3.1 supported CD-ROM drives "out of the box", and that it was just a case of changing the unit number on the icon tooltype of CD0 to be 0 for master, 1 for slave, and Bob's yer uncle?
I'm using my 4000 internal IDE for a 10GB drive and CD-ROM. Disk is no worries, but the CD-ROM steadfastly refuses to be recognised Do I still need AmiCDFS or similar? |

Is CD0 mounted? You could also try AmiCDFS, it's allegedly better.

It supports SCSI cd-roms, but not ATAPI. You need an ATAPI capable device driver in order to get access.
IDE-FIX'97 or OS 3.5/3.9 have these drivers. |

so., yes I mounted CD0:, however it did nothing no matter what the tooltype setting for UNIT was.
Jope, thanks so much! I've been trying to find out what it does and doesn't support with no luck. I think I should document my resurrection attempts and the gotchas. The embarassing thing is that I wrote a CD-ROM installer script for the place I used to work... Sheesh. I've downloaded IDEFix and AmiCDFS to play with tonight. Sounds like I dont need AmiCDFS, but I do need IDEFix. Shame I can't buy it apart from with the IDEFix for the 1200 I'm installing my 4k from scratch, so have to use the 3.1 disks to get something onto my machine that can access CD-ROM disks, then install the whole shooting match from there. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether I'm best off installing P96 now on 3.1, or putting it on top of 3.9 only. |

Thanks - I've literally *just* found that after googling, being pointed to amigarealm, going to the archive, working out amigarealm's structure, finding it's there... then finding that archive.org has actually archived the text file...
I'd have saved half an hour of my life if I'd checked this thread |
