Which Replacement Fan is best for an Apollo 1240 ?

The Fan on my Apollo 1240 accelerator is driving me a bit nuts and I would like to replace it with a silent running and more efficient one.

I use my Apollo in a Desktop A1200 so the new fan will need to fit comfortably in the trapdoor - no tower here.

Can anyone suggest a new fan for me ?

A link would be a big help.

Thanks in advance.

You need to work out the dimensions of the old one and I would recommend using a Ceramica fan, uses a ceramic bearing as opposed to the old ball sleeve fans.

I would recommend a fan with a larger diameter because it is generally more silent. The original is very small and noisy (at least mine was). A friend had repalced radiator + fan against a set that fits perfect on the cpu. That could be also a solution.

I'm am correct to assume that I can use any fan - so long as it fits...? or are there some fan types that are just not suitable because of power consumption or some other incompatibility...?

Have a look at the chipset fans on eBay, I have used these and used a themal transfer fad to fix them to my 060's they will work as well on an 040

Thanks Steve - I'll take a look... the noise of the other one is becoming too much of a distraction now!

Power consumption shouldn't be a consideration, you only have to ensure it won't burn out the traces, but chances are very minimal.
