okay, even with a standard 2MB A1200 you can use a PCMCIA Network Card, for this you´ll need this :

- PCMCIA Networkcard (16 Bit)
- cnet.device (Aminet)
- a TCP/IP Stack (like Miami, Demo Version on Aminet, the demo version will do it for only adf transfer )

The other option would be Nullmodem cable (that you allready have) and if you then use TwinExpress you can get about 230000 Baud on a standard A1200

With 2MB of RAM only, Miami will eat almost all of the memory. I know because I have done this with the A600. But it's still possible. I connected to my Linux setup through nullmodem with Miami.

Best thing to get them on Amiga is Crossdos OR a CDRom Cause Miami is too big to fit on one disk, so you have to split it in multiple files on PC (you can use HJSPLIT for that), rejoin them on the Amiga and install it

Do i need workbench disks?

So CrossDos will read PC formatted floppy disks on the Amiga?!?!

So many questions, eh?
Crossdos lets you read PC 720K disks on 880K amiga drives, yes. It comes with Workbench 3.0 so you will need a copy of that.

If I wasn't broke I'd mail you a disk with CrossDOS or MessyDOS

mate, i know the feeling

so if i get a blank HD or DD disk and format in Win98, write files to it, the Amiga floppy disk will read it with Workbench/CrossDos?

cos Wartrans comes with a small Amiga side file and a PC app (both available from BTTR)

sorry for asking simple questions... but its my first time!

You have to format HD disks as 720KB, unless you have a high density Amiga drive.

Also you might need to tape the extra hole in HD disks for a normal amiga drive to recognize the disk.

This network solution seems to popup all the time Djay! People have different opinions on it, but it works fine for me.

Here are a few old threads I've just found:

This is the same software (which can be found on Aminet) and hardware (a simple 4-way laptop parallel cable) I use for transferring files. In fact, it's directly supported in my Classic WB LITE V4 so you may want to install this as an all-in-one solution. You'll need to use the LITE version since your A1200 only has the standard 2MB RAM. Thanks to Rck, all versions will be available directly on EAB very soon.

Exclamation

I got the amigatopc package, and when I try running it, the PC bit seems to work fine (I presume I run that bit first).

But when I try mounting the PC: device on the amiga, I get a message that my serial port speeds are not set up correctly! As this is a parallel cable, I'm a bit confused. Am I doing things right?
