1988 - Maria's Xm... er, sorry, I mean IK+.
1989 - The New Zealand Story

Good grief, there's a distinct lack of Good Games released in those years! Amazed the Amiga made it past '89 alive...

True that Graham. The list of 1990 is a lot more appealing

Don't say that Graham, there are genuinely good games from those years, and 1989 was when the Amiga really took off, because of the Batman pack and of the games released in the previous and in that year. I think you didn't tried enough.

A couple that haven't been mentioned:

1988 - Ultima IV
1989 - Ultima V

Yeah, I know Ultima IV was released in 1985 on the Apple II, but the Amiga conversion didn't appear till '88.

You're kidding, right? Most of the best Amiga games were made in these 2 years and the couple of years immediately before and after. In particular very few good games game out after about 1991...Cannon Fodder series, Zeewolf series, Primal Rage, Syndicate and Rise of the Robots being the only ones that spring to mind. Whereas I can list hundreds from the late 1980s. The deluge of crap games throughout the 1990s is one of the major factors in the eventual collapse of the platform as a commercial proposition.

Do you think Primal Rage and Rise of the Robots are good games?

Yes. Although admiitedly the animation on Primal Rage could use a few more frames.

One could argue that the amount of poor ST or C64 conversion and the lack of games that used the Amiga's capabilities before 1990 had an impact on the success of the platform. Sales figures for the A500 in the UK kinda support that argumentation : http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/sales.html
From that point of view you could say that the Amiga used it's 3-4 years as the leading computer gaming platform quite well to build up a fanbase
