Who Has '060 And Upwards Equipped Amiga Nowadays?
'060 was a somewhat rudimentary starting point, but it probably falls into the lower end of the equation anyway.
Essentially I'm just curious as to what an average spec of people's 680x0 based Amiga might look like these days. Is there enough of a user base that software targeting '060 type speeds as a minimum could sell, for conversations sake, 1/2 as many as some of the recent titles that has targeted lower end systems? I get that no-one is going to get rich with Amiga software these days, but speaking for myself at least, the idea of being able to cover some of the costs of physical production sounds great, and might sway me into doing it (hypothetically). I'd hazard a guess I wouldn't be the only one with this mindset. With all the options these days, lower pricepoints, and the fact we're all adults now with more disposable income (on average) Id almost be willing to put money on the ratio of "high end" users, or at least people with "high end" systems has increased somewhat vs even 5 or 6 years ago. |

Icedrake 080. NB: I think the Apollo boyz cop a lot of ridicule for re-inventing the wheel.

I suspect most use WinUAE, providing far better performance than any 68060. There doesn't seem to be an option for that, especially since the emulated 680x0 will not usually be a 68060 (68020 tends to be more compatible for most software).

I would think PiStorm would be the most common "real hardware" config these days, anecdotally.
-EDIT- My config is A1200 with PiStorm32 Lite with Pi4b (soon to be swapped for CM4) overclocked to 2200 MIPS. Last edited by StevenJGore; 23 January 2024 at 09:46. |

Not at all, I loved my Vampire V1200 V2. Apollo was a big deal at the time, a significant development. But PiStorm is the same leap over Apollo as Apollo was over 68060, probably more so. Especially with Emu68 RC3 released very recently.

I have two 68030 based Amiga's. The rest is still at 68020 or 68000.

I think I’m slightly odd, in that I have an ‘060 machine (A1200 with TF1260) AND I have a an RTG machine (A3000, Picasso II with stock CPU)…but they’re not the same, so there’s a sliver of really hardcore software that I can’t run that well (Duke 3D is passable for instance)…
The TF4060 or TF2060 (I have an A2000 too) might change that though I should add that as a musician, I don’t need the fastest CPU’s around, unless I want to run some very specific software. Last edited by Paulee_Alex_Bow; 23 January 2024 at 10:33. |

A1200 with PiStorm is my daily driver but 2 * A4000's one with A3660 + Picasso IV & another with (when it works) Cyberstorm MKIII & Picasso IV.

2x A1200 030 (and for the sake of completeness 1x CD32 030, 1x CDTV 000). I don't plan any CPU upgrade, it's more than fast enough for anything I do (and for dev the 030s are most often turned off anyway). For anything that requires more performance (which in my case is the need for lightning fast booting / loading for dev) there's WinUAE.

I would be fairly disappointed that anyone with a 1200, at least, had less than an 030 still.
Spent good coin on upgrades back in the day (when I was massively skint). So with the cost of them nowadays and the benefit extra cpu and fast mem gives, it should be a no brainer for any Amiga enthusiast. If you have no money then emulation is the way, it's very good to! Still prefer to keep the hardware, at least somewhat in line with what was available in the 90s. |

I still have a A3000 with a 68060 and RTG, and realized i haven't even plugged it in last year.
Guess i should consider just selling it, the few times i want to hack at something Amiga WinUAE does perfectly fine anyway. |
