cycle-exact or not?

Apart from speed issues (which I don't have) is there any reason not to have cycle-exact active on WinUAE?
I always have it active, but every now and then I see people mentioning to try turning it on/off so I was wondering if there's any reason for it, for both a500 and a1200 models I mean. Does it still have issues, otherwise I'd expect that accuracy would always be preferred.

I also realized winuaeloader disables cycle exact on all games ran through it so this even raised more doubts. Why would this be done?

IIRC (Toni will surely tell me off if I'm not ) there are a few games/cracks that only work if cycle exact isn't enabled. At least I encountered a few in the past (might be due to an older version of WinUAE). As a general rule cycle exact is the way to go though

I Agree Cycle ecact is the best way for compatability

That's exactly what I thought , is this valid for both a500 and a1200?
I remember I had a few issues with a couple of demos a few months ago, but didn't really bother me, never had issues with games (at least issues that disabling cycle exact would fix). Still if there's that odd game that won't work with cycle exact I'd be curious to try it.

So if I'm going to use winuaeloader for whdload games I'd probably be better off editing it's config file and setup everything to use cycle exact instead right?

A500: if something does not work, report it, including enough details, must include image checksum. Note that it is not always a bug. Program that does not work on real A500 may still work in non-ce mode! It can happen when possibly badly programmed program has not been meant to run on A500 or has not been tested on A500.

A1200: CPU is not cycle-exact enough, just try non-ce if there problems.

That is funny because I wonder the exact same thing but opposite. I NEVER use cycle exact and never run into problems. Am I being lucky?

Most games don't care, they don't usually exploit Amiga hardware features or other tricks, worst you usually get is random flickering. Also usually it is the copy protection (if emulating original non-cracked games), cracktro (including replaced trackloader if original was non-ados) or trainer that requires CE, not the main game code..

On the other hand most scene demos require CE.

Lol...Since you use a real Amiga I doubt you need to tick that box

I use WinUAE a lot too, for testing stuff before sending it to the Amiga, to troubleshoot my Amiga, etc. It's probably the best tool for my real Amiga, ever!

Thanks Toni. Speaking of WHDLoad if A1200 cpu emulation isn't cycle exact enough I wonder what would be the best default setup to run these?
I've been using A1200 with 2MB chip and 8MB fast RAM with CE on for pretty much all of them, is there a better suggestion?

Would using A500 cycle exact for the non AGA games work? Never bothered trying because I always run WHDLoad games on my real A1200 without issues and I suspect there would be loads of problems to get them running on a real A500 starting with the RAM.
