What is wrong with announcing a new program here?

I have just been very surprised that my announcement was moderated. Would anybody like please to explain me what is wrong in my post. Thank you.

I read it. So I ask is it ok to announce new software in Amiga scene? What is the proper place for such announcements?

I must agree with the thread starter here, an interesting post and I would post as news just would change the topic a bit to reflect the software mentioned ..

Okay. I apologise for moving that to off topic. I maybe acted a little too quickly
I have moved to support apps as you seem to be asking for support, rather than announcing a new program. If you announce a new release make the post about just that release.

I read it as announcing his new aminet release of "Xlife-8" - he's the author.

Conway's game of life is quite interesting, you can implement other machines using it.

And then goes off on a tangent. If it was just an announcement then fine, but it isn't.

Remember news posts go on the main abime.net front page.

I think he's comparing his new programme to existing ones by way of introduction. I wouldn't have phrased the post that way but, while possibly confusing, seems a valid announcement (imo). "here's a thing, here's alternatives, now here's my cool new thing".

Totally but is then asking for help.

If he wants to post a news item that's fine but it must be specific and to the point, without any waffle about other programs that crash and how to get them running.

Anyway I have restored his post into a more suitable section. Let's move on eh?

I would be happier if someone said something about Xlife-8 itself.

I'd love to, but I get "Unknown compression (need newer LhA version) when I try to unarchive it. I'm running LHA 2.11 (Lha.run from aminet).

Any thoughts on how to decompress it?
