I wouldn't mind at least an acknowledgment of the problem.

I doubt this is going to be resolved and I can explain what likely happened (as I work for a domain registrar and hosting company):

Someone forgot to renew the domain. This can cause more than a few problems (ignoring that the site would go down) because when a domain expires, it goes into something called a "Redemption Period". This is a time where it's still registered to you, but doesn't work anymore. The major issue with this is that getting a domain back out of Redemption normally costs a lot of money (somewhere between £80 and £200 depending on the registrar) and then the renewal cost on top of that.

If you don't pay for the Redemption clearance then you have to wait out this period until the domain expires entirely and goes back on the open market. At this point, if the domain is popular, it'll immediately get snapped up by any of those nasty "domain squatters" who basically try and extort the domain back to you for at least £2000 or more (depending on how popular the domain was). If you're a business then you'd take them to court at this point or get a WIPO issued, but that's beyond what I'd expect the BTTR guys to go through as it's costly and potentially requires lawyers.

TL;DR: Domain expired, it'll cost lots of money to get it back. Chances are that won't happen so getting used to back2roots.abime.net is recommended.

I'm pretty sure there will be no news. The URL is http://back2roots.abime.net/News/ and the old domain is lost. That's pretty much it.

The copy on back2roots.abime is not working though, as discussed earlier. Try to download anything, you'll end up with a blank page saying "broken transfer" or something like that.

In this state, the site isn't very useful.

Does anyone have any further info on BTTR ?

Noticed that http://back2roots.abime.net/ used to work but now that is dead too.

Unfortunately not. It's been mentioned before. Lots of the pages aren't indexed and none of the actual content will be available.

I only setup a subdomain who target the IP address of BTTR server.
If it's no more working, we can think the BTTR server is now unplugged from the internet

i was wondering, is there a mirror of the site stashed somewhere? and if so, what's the size of the entire repo?

I don't know of any mirror. You may be able to gain access through archive.org but will have the same problem of dead links.
One option is to contact the University in Norway where it was hosted, just may be a slight chance that it's still hosted on their servers and they would pass it on.

Original founder (Bobic) might be though. According to his stats he still visits here regularly...
I was delighted more than a year and a half ago to read his statement in this very thread and truly believed him and had hope that me might see BTTR back online some future day (especially including the sorely missed FTP contents!). Well, he seemed to still sincerely care about it and be motivated to bring it back somehow.

One should try and contact him about it, just to check how things are today from his perspective (I might do so myself if nobody beats me to it).
