No. The sound was still buggy for me back then but I was hopeful that it could improve. My messages aren't that hard to decode are they?

@RocketMack,
You may want to upgrade that ram right away as the prices have already started to climb, an artificial shortage by the manufacturers has caused this Also, most likely your system uses DIMM's rather then SIMM's. Look at the motherboard/system manual for more info on this and what type you can use. Also note that if you get ram now, get a stick of PC133 memory as it's backwards compatible with most any motherboard out there. |

Thanks jmmijo. My brother has been trying to hand me some ram from his shop for months. He does graphics that require massive amounts of memory and he can't show them to me when he comes over because of my computer's limitations.
Guess I'll upgrade. It just seems like this machine (IBM) never stops needing more!:disgusted |

WinUAE Problems?
WinUAE [and basilisk II which runs UAE emulation] has never given me any problem that i havent caused through stupidity [id est: trying to make a 1 kilobyte disk image, trying to boot a non-bootable disk, trying to open a boot-only disk game from in workbench, etc.], also, UAE emulates the amiga with the oldskewl feel, i still run an amiga, and UAE sits next to it like a flat mirror with Fellow looking like a crumpled piece of non-reflective paper.
BTW, i run WinUAE on a Pentium [too ashamed of processor speed to say] MMX with 64meg RAM, 3 gig total HD on 2 FAT32 partitions, Windows 95b taking up 1 gig of that, standard programs taking up another 512 meg, pc games taking up a gig, leaving 512 meg for all my emulators and programming projects [about 200 meg free now] and i used to run it on a 586/66, 32 meg ram, win 95a, 300meg + 1.2gig HDs [2 HDs] -- used to 'cause now i removed the 1.2gig hd and use it as an assembly test platform |

He might not reply to that post, since his last post in this thread was about 3 years ago. My guess is that he probably wasn't allocating 50 MB of ram in his config though, among other things.

The post you are replying to is from 2002! WinUAE had different requirements then.
On your 450MHz PC, an old version of WinUAE surely would perform a lot better than a recent one. Wow! My 101st post! Do I win anything? A few reputation points maybe. lol |

I have no idea :-)
At least you can be sure that the optimisation point was lower, MHz wise, in 2002 than it is now. I'm sure an even older version would be faster for you if you could dig one up. Maybe someone here has a back up of an ancient version they could upload to the Zone for you. |

Give me a minute, and version 0.8.8 will be upped to the Zone. That's the one that many people used to swear by, but it's sort of dated. If you're going to give it a try, be sure to create a brand new config for your game using it, since a ton of config file settings have changed. You'll also find that some games won't run with that version, but it might come in handy for the few you're having problems with.

It's our little area we upload files to that automagically are deleted after one week. There is a link to it in the upper right hand corner of the page, though you will have to go into the User CP page (look for the link on the upper left) and under "Group Memberships", register for access to the Zone. It's painless and useful.

This is what I mean by 'optimization point'. Naturally, Nvidia is not going to optimize their drivers for TNT2 cards running on 450MHz Pentium II's in this day and age. I have a 5900XT now and use recent drivers, but the Detonator 29.42 drivers was always the fastest on my old Geforce2Ti. I guess the latest Forceware drivers (hell even the name has changed - Forceware, Geforce, back then it was Detonator - TNT) are optimized for the two latest generations of Geforce cards. If not only for the latest! This is just like WinUAE. Six years ago when 450 MHz was state of the art, WinUAE probably took a lot of shortcuts to keep up the speed, sacrificing accuracy. Today, WinUAE is more accurate but at the cost of speed. But this is negligible on a modern PC because the CPU is more than fast enough to run the emulation. |

Hey whaddaya know, worked like a charm, even when i put the speed up on the blasted thing... thanks for the save
Use these drivers : http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=767 They are based on the forceware 56.72, but are the most stable i ever had plus faster then the original ones, i can play MechWarrior 4 800x600 16bit high detail average 40fps. Should do wonders on your oldie Last edited by FallenSeraphin; 18 February 2005 at 04:46. |
