New 16 color Workbench theme: CD32

Hey!

So I installed the new Workbench 3.1.4 with BestWB on top on my CD32.
The new Workbench 3.1.4 icons are nice, but they were a bit pale next to the awesome looks of the coolest of all Amiga's

So I made a custom WorkBench theme - especially for the CD32.

16 colors (and Copper Daemon for the window gradients)
Made for square pixel screen modes (Pal hires laced e.g.)

This is the palette:

The font is XEN (from MUI)

Although it's possible to run this in a 16 color WorkBench, it's recommended to use at least a 32 color screenmode.
That way you can also set the MUI colors and still have some pens left for other programs.

Color Locker and Border Blanker recommended!

Workflow:
  • First made in Photoshop
  • color-reduced with (the super awesome) http://tool.anides.de/
  • cleaned up and re-dithered back in Photoshop
  • icons cut out and saved as NewIcons with Personal Paint on the Amiga

Everything is downloadable from https://github.com/steffest/amiga/tr...%20Themes/CD32

Some extra wallpapers are also there.

That was fun!

That one looks great indeed, good work, and thanks for making it available! Does this also work with the old WB 3.1?

Cool, I love the wallpaper!! Are you softkicking into a 3.1.4 ROM or just running WB 3.1.4 on a 3.1 machine?
This will also make as a cool theme for the CD32 A1200(.net) case (if only these keys were finished soon )

I would love to also see a high res version of the wallpaper I can use on my PC

Hmm ... apparently not. But that's my mistake.
Apparently when saving through Personal Paint on 3.1.4 it saves them using the new icon datatype which does not work on "old" 3.1 ...
I'll re-create them as standard NewIcons as well

Thank you!

Things like this motivates me to keep BestWB going.

A work of art & love. Well done!

I think it could work if people install the latest iconlib on Aminet. http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/IconLib_46.4

Yes!

That's indeed the difference.

Very weird thing with Personal Paint though ...
If I use the version from https://www.amigaforever.com/classic/download/
- version 7.1 - I get NO save brush as icon option ...
If I use the version that comes bundled with ClassicWB - Also 7.1 , on the same system - there IS a save as icon option.

Very weird that Personal Paint was pulled from Aminet.

Anyway: the type of icon that gets saved apparently depends on the icon library installed. Icons saved with a newer version don't display correctly on older versions. (that's my guestimate anyway, will do some more testing)

Go to https://github.com/steffest/amiga - top right -> "clone or download"

(or directly to https://github.com/steffest/amiga/archive/master.zip )

It's still a work in progress - lots of icons still missing.
When it's mpore or less complete, I'll package it up.

You can still download PPaint 7.1c for free from Cloanto: https://www.amigaforever.com/classic/download/

What exactly is the problem with saving icons under different icon.libraries?

Do you know that OS 3.5/3.9 has a different newicon.library than those in the original NewIcons 4.6 package? The emulated newicon.library from Stephan Rupprecht, which is also included in OS 3.5+ converts ColorIcons into NewIcons to make them available to old programs like Iconian etc. (I think this version of newicon.library is also installed in ClassicWB, since I once did that for ADVSP)

Apparently WB 3.1.4 also saves as ColorIcons, not as NewIcons.
I never touched 3.5 or 3.9 when creating these icons.
I can't put my finger on it exactly, I can only observe that the PPaint version of Cloanto behaves differently then the PPaint version included in ClassicWB - even if it's both 7.1.

I think I'm just a little lost in all those Icon libraries and what they do exactly. (for example, the default "darken" mode when selected, that's your Library that does that, right?)

Anyway - interesting topic, I'll dig in some more :-)
