Have you ever seen an msx machine in action? It definitely beats the c64 in graphics and sound(with the fm-pac cartridge).

I always wanted an Msx all the time i had my C64.A few years ago i downloaded an emulator and a ton of software.I'm very glad i didn't own an Msx after all as apart from the slight improvement from the Msx 2 it seems , scrolling was quite awfull. It did at least have nice resolution and sprite movement but sound wasn't great either though again Msx 2 may have improved things here a little.I first saw an Msx in Dixons in the early eighties but i think this computer was mostly successfull in Japan. It wasnt a very warm machine in terms of atmosphere and had mostly Japanese games in comparison to other 8bits.

But i guess it's what you grow up with isn't it as i would probably be saying differently had i owned one.

Arctic Adventure (i think that's what it's called.Penguin) is a lot of fun and the very game i saw in Dixons.I was very jealous at the time because the graphics were sharper than the C64 and the 3d movement was very impressive back then.

Have to disagree with you there. The Amiga version was full screen AND was overscanned off the sides of the TV screen.

The ST version had a huge score area because it can't cope properly with bidirectional scrolling on the whole screen.

The difference between the two games is down to the Amiga's custom graphics chips.

I remember seeing an old video where Tramiel and his son were on a TV show promoting the ST. The ST was at the time in prototype form, they had one on the show powered up, but they couldn't actually run any stuff on it, as it would most likely crash miserably, lol. All they did was move the pointer around and open a coupla windows in the OS. Anyway, they were touting it to be as advanced as the Amiga, and having four "custom chips", although they never specified what these were. Obviously, the "custom chips" were not as custom as they'd have you think, as the ST used mostly off-the-shelf components. Technically, the ST was lightyears behind the Amiga, but often a computer can become successful on its software base alone. Just look at the PC.

That was pretty much how he ran Commodore too, suddenly six months before a big show he'd tell his engineers a new computer was needed. They'd work day and night to deliver it, and it would be nearly ready by the time of the show, but they would have to be very careful about what they demoed!

This doesn't include the Amiga of course which was brought in after Tramiel left.

I always used to curse not having a decent database on my Amiga. It really used to piss me off that I had to play games like Turrican and watch really cool demos by talented people, like Photon for example (Hi Henrik - it's been a while), when all I really wanted to do was issue a list of nice, dull SELECT and INSERT statements.

Jesus God, man. That's like saying that a Citroen is better than a Ferrari because it has more space in the trunk.

Sinbad coded us a mod player routine that used a grand total of two raster lines. You couldn't use the code with anything else mind you, but the thought was there.
