Planning your Amiga retirement plan...
So, the majority of us folk are in their 30's...
When will you be retiring and what will your ultimate collection be like in another 25 - 35 years time? I plan to retire at 55 (fack working till my 60's lugging computers about). Play Stardust everyday and tell my grandchildren about how carp the Atari ST woz. Then I will play soccer kid, arabian nights, premiere, speedball 2, cannon fodder, superfrog, turrican 2 amongst others all day long. I will show them a floppy disk and the inside of my A500 which by then will be encrusted in amber Then I will fall down the stairs with my hot cup of Horlicks |

Never, playing Amiga game it's not only like time travel but also you can go to any fantasy world you want. And this small, gray, friendly box is enough to do it anytime you need.

i dont think i will ever stop playing Amiga games, although i will still keep up with the "next generation" consoles too
for me the Amiga came at the right time, mature enough to understand how things work and provided puzzles and challenges which i wanted to overcome (before that i had the C64 but i dont think i completed any game on it... it was just and only fun, i didnt care if i played and lost) when i play xbox360, multi-player gaming rocks, i really enjoy the challenge of real people |

I think we are the last generation that will appreciate what came before PS3s and XBoxs.
I play Modern Warfare 2 on my PS3 regularly, but I can still look at and appreciate playing an Amiga game. I don't believe a lot of todays kids can, I don't think they can get over that the graphics aren't in the same league and not in 3D first person perspective. They would probably still be able to appreciate the sound and music as they have stood the test of time well. We are now in a position where there are people out there today playing PS3 and 360 stuff that have NEVER heard of the Amiga and have no appreciation for what it achieved. Thats pretty fucking sad. |

this is the reason i make my daughter play the Amiga... she grew up on GTA3 on PS2 and plays alot of LBP on her PS3 and stuff on her Wii, i explain to her that "this" is what i was playing when i was her age! Wiz n' Liz was a good starting point! ... although she refused to use the Zipstick (joystick of champions), she had to use my ascii pad Last edited by Djay; 15 August 2010 at 18:49. |

My disabled client was amazed with Amiga Alien 3 but he don't like too colorful SNES version. We play Amiga games every week with WinUAE and he seems to be happy after that. He is 14. But most kids which have current gen console in home don't like 2D games.

At the time when I'll retire... I'll forget all of my current plan, and when I'll push and pull all those old yellowed (and planned to whitened with peroxide ) strange stuff with labels of "Amiga" and Commodore" I'd just ask from my children that why the hell I kept all of these weird bits 'N' pieces... :P

I hope my collection of kit, from Spectrums, Amigas and present day consoles still works ok to show people when I'm 55. However there will always be emulation - hard to imagine downloading a PS3 emulator and blu ray ISO in 5-10 years time probably within 5 seconds or something!
I still enjoy gaming but there was a real magic to seeing the evolution from 8 bit bedroom coding to the present commercialised gaming world. The new generation have just dipped straight into less magical experience than I was lucky enough to experience. |

I do sometimes concern myself that there wont be a community in 20 years but really that's just me being daft.Something that is good now will remain that no matter how long into the future
I still have lots of Amiga games i want to play and many that i do still enjoy playing now.And it's not just a nostalgia thing for me but rather i enjoy these comparitively simpler worlds and how they often immerse me more Crazy not to enjoy a few of the really good games of today of course but the Amiga is always going to be part of my gaming time as is the C64 |

When I retire...
I'll probably do the same things I do today (play games, code my own stuff, write articles), only more of it Dunno if I'd still play Amiga games, I mean we're talking 35-40 years from now... Plenty of time to explore all the games I wanted to when I was a kid but I never did before I retire. In those 40 years there will also be many more platforms which I will miss out when it is current gen and thus will explore when it has become a retro platform, like I am completely missing out on the Wii, XBox 360 and PS3 right now... |

A bit off topic
I too planed to enjoy life when I retired or if my oh so unreliable job finished. I bought all the gear I could to make my own hobby and fairground lighting effects circuit boards and the repairs to others easier, trouble is I started to lose my memory as well as gain a lot of physical problems. I ended up selling most of my equipment as I no longer had the faculties to use them any more, this was something like Alzheimer's disease and it was steadily getting worse. Who would have thought that cholesterol lowering drugs could cause so much damage. In short, enjoy planning for the future, only don't let whichever current medical fad get in the way of you enjoying that time when it eventually comes |

Retirement? With this government I'll be 6 feet under before that ever happens.
I hope to be playing or at least dribbling all over the zipstick should I ever reach the retirement home. Until I become senile, then it could be a struggle but even in that state I hope I can stare out of the window of aforementioned home occasionally getting a fleeting memory of my gaming past, have a smile about it then forget all about it again. Repeat every hour for my waking life there on. |

I was forced into retirement in Februaury this year at the age of 41 by my wife lol. After years and years of medical problems (blood clots on my lungs, bruised brain from an accident in my artic, ulcers and then to top it all off a botched op on both of my knee's last year) the wife decided i'd had enough of hobbling to work and made me ring my boss and tell him what a tosser I always thought he was lol.
Fortunately for me my wife is self employed so it allows me to potter around with computers and things which is what has brought me back to the glorious Amiga. Not 30 minutes ago I was telling my son how all the top tv and movie studios used Amiga's until around 10 or 12 years ago, I don't think he believed me |

Its good to see you are keeping busy with computers and the likes as its a lot better than being bored or getting stuck in a routine that's going nowhere |
