Lightbulb Amiga Format magazine scans

I have already PM'd Codetapper and Galaxy, but thought I'd also share this here.

Amiga Format Issue 136 (May 2000) - final collector's edition:

I have scanned all 84 pages from this issue of Amiga Format (the last issue ever produced) in 300dpi quality, for the Amiga Magazine Rack archive.

Now I'm not sure if these scans have already been contributed and are just awaiting being uploaded (or if the project has since gone quiet), however these are quite high quality scans and some pages may be better quality, so hopefully they won't be completely useless in that case

For now, I have uploaded a RAR archive of all 84 JPEG images to Megaupload (approx 300MB), at the following URL:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q3DNJMFT

In case this project's owners wish to use my scans and give me credit for them, I'm from Bristol, England.

Lightbulb Amiga Format Special Issue: Comic Relief (12 pages out of 16) scans

UPDATE: Amiga Format Special Issue: Comic Relief (12 pages out of 16) scans

I also found this, which I decided to scan and upload (file size under 40MB). I have 75% of it (4 pages are missing), though this one's a bit tatty after more than 17 years:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7MY5MXWF

So that's 96 pages of Amiga Format scanned and uploaded today. I hope some of this can be of use to the Amiga community.

Amiga Format Issue 45 April 1993 (5 pages)

OK, I thought I'd do just 5 more pages today. That leaves no less than 101 Amiga Format pages scanned and uploaded today. I'm done for now

This one has 5 pages from Issue 45 (April 1993), including part of the cover multimedia feature, and reviews of ImageFX (92%), Video Backup System (93%) and Directory Opus 4 (98%!):

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4PCKCJ75 (less than 18MB).

Out of the 101 pages I scanned today, some will no doubt need rotating and cropping (among other possible tweaks). Does anyone care to make these scans ready for the Amiga Magazine Rack and upload them there?

PM sent - maybe you'd like to join the AMR team?

I can't get your links to work, they all come up as file temporarily unavailable

They work here. Should I forward them to the HOL FTP for now Codetapper?

Hi, PM received, and due to Codetapper being very busy at the moment I decided to respond here.

I'm not sure why the RAR won't download, as I just tried it and it worked fine (with Megaupload's 45 second wait for non-paying members).

The scans I did will most likely require processing before being rescaled from 300dpi to 100dpi, such as rotation and cropping as well as brightness/contrast and any other possible filters. This will likely take several hours for the 101 pages I scanned, but first the most appropriate processing software/algorithms will need to be tested and chosen. I'm sure there are others more experienced with this than myself, if anyone would like to offer any suggestions.

I have posted about this in case anyone else would like to process it (uploading that many scans took enough time), in the meantime the raw scans are still downloadable.

I have a few other Amiga magazines left, but they are more like fragments than whole issues. I'll see if I get the time to scan some more.

Sure, although I won't have that much time to contribute from October when I begin a University degree course.

Just a suggestion: Perhaps there could be a temporary place on the FTP for scans in need of processing - given enough available space, of course.

The scans are already in the required naming convention (017.jpg etc.).

I don't currently have an FTP client installed on my PC (other than browsers), do you have any recommendations? Perhaps someone else could transfer these to the FTP (extracted to jpg's).

I don't really know how the AMR contributions are handled or where they are stored. I will ask Cody later where the official place for uploads is. Someone should put that on the AMR site. Maybe the HOL FTP is the right place, but I have to ask (or get an answer here) first.

Anyway, I use FileZilla as my FTP client and it works fine.

Thanks for the scans Mequa

I had sacnned some pages from some AF mags that I will post here in EAB since I don´t know how to upload to AMR and, moreover, the site of AMR looks like it´s stagnant

Or am I asking for too much?

Amiga Format CD32 Special - 20 Pages

Amiga Format CD32 Special - 20 Pages (not sure if you have this already):

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2ZV46ZSF (77.2 MB)

I believe this was a supplement to Issue 51 (October 1993). This version is almost complete.

Amiga Format Issue 59 May 1994 - Imagine tutorial part 7 - p170 and p171

Amiga Format Issue 59 May 1994 - Imagine tutorial part 7 - p170 and p171

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A8LDDEP3 (8.77 MB)

Just 2 pages I found which appeared to be missing from AMR's issue 59.

I also have the following Amiga Format magazines, almost complete, which I haven't scanned (and doing all of it may not be possible), and may or may not be in the AMR already awaiting sorting.
Let me know which would be useful:

- Amiga Format Special Issue 8: Annual '94 (124 pages)

- Amiga Format Issue 50 September 1993 (AMR seems to be missing some pages)
- Amiga Format Issue 45 April 1993 (AMR seems to be missing some pages)

I also have an issue of sister magazine Amiga Power which seems to be missing from the AMR:
- Amiga Power issue 51 (July 1995) (88 pages). This is almost complete.

If anyone is interested in scanning these in in full, I'm willing to sell all 4 magazines for the cost of postage and packing (they aren't good enough condition to put on the market), on condition AMR and myself get a copy of the scans.

Update - uploaded to HOL server

I have uploaded all these pages as .jpg files to the HOL server (hol@ftp.abime.net) in directory AF_raw_scans.
No more messing about with Megaupload and RAR archives.

Apologies for the large size - I didn't have time to resize them from 300dpi to 100dpi, and I thought they would best be processed appropriately before resizing.

I specialise in digital restoration, and if there is any half decent scans of these, I could restore to there former glory or die trying , I think magazines like this need to be fully cropped and straighten and de-screened to perfection..

sorry put wrongly..little work required meaning that..it's a 9/10, but since you mentioned taking it with a camera, then a 10/10 m8...nicely done..now why can't they be all like that ?
