GoldED Studio AIX is a commercial program. If somebody wants to have it, contact me and buy it for 10 EUR on CD-ROM. You can't just make it available for free on your web sites (I can do that and give away free licenses because I own the copyright - you can not). This package is not freeware. Nothing in its license indicates that it might be freeware. There are prominent copyright notices on my website, specifically forbidding distribution of downloaded files on other sites.

welcome to eab, why would it state in other places it is?

I am sure many would considering buying such software if you had an online presence to get at.. all i get is a constant broken link to http://www.dietmar-eilert.net/ perhaps you have another site with perhaps even more products available...

I could only hope so.

I'm confident you could have found the site with google if you really wanted to. The link to the current site was in all Cubic IDE press releases in recent months, too.

It doesn't state in any other related place it is, unless you mean third party Amiga web sites, in which case I'd attribute it to ignorance.

On my site, prominent copyright notices near to download links make it clear that no software is freeware and that nothing may be reproduced on any other site.

dont get me wrong tony, thats the last thing i would want..

I have a fully licensed version of gold ed for when i was using dice compiler and i believe another when i got storm c++.

I did try google for gold ed / editor and the best result i got (after an hour mind you) was to aminet for a demo version of golded 4.

I appreciate dietmar's position, and indeed, a lot of people have as in thier eyes had their toes trodden on and I didn't mean to come off flipant (as i read it now) in my previous post.

I appreciate the new link btw as I have been looking for a familiar IDE for gcc / linux development.

The inconvenient side of commercial software is payment. The other side of the coin is software quality. They either go together or the commercial developer is out of business: nothing can be sold if customers aren't happy or if free software is better.

A few months ago, you could have downloaded GoldED for free. That was a limited-time promotional offer. Obviously such offers are financed by previous customers (who paid for the development) and have a commercial purpose (to increase visitors and ultimately sales).

If you download a freebie, you benefit directly from the commercial background. It's a bit stupid to condem it at the same time: "speculation", as you call it, gives you software that you otherwise woulnd't have.
