SystemShock

There's various repositories of the System Shock source code.
https://github.com/NightDiveStudios/shockmac <- official release
https://github.com/nothings/shockmac <- Tidied up for learning
https://github.com/Interrupt/systemshock <- SDL port

Even with some 68k (Mac) assembler code in it.

I'm not setup for Amiga dev' but it looks ripe for porting to faster Amigas, 68060, PowerPC, Vampire etc.

I was thinking of this game earlier today, remembering how freaking awesome it was for it's time.

I was more in love with the idea of this game than the actual game itself. The gameplay is quite rough, the user interface even rougher But, cool setting.

I think it's held up quite well given how old it is, but there's things noted in the SDL port about making it more friendly to todays expectations.

We had System Shock on the Amiga in 1991, although the computer was called Cybercon III rather than SHODAN.

This sounds like an interesting project. It will probably need an 060, since the DOS version needed at least a 486/DX. Also there's no 68k assembly whatsoever in the source release, because the Mac version was PowerPC only.

I second this. The Amiga should be promoting its own home-grown games like this, not just porting from other platforms. Don't you think the Amiga platform has had enough of ports from other platforms?

Amiga can never have enough 68k Ports, more ports = more fun with the Amiga, but i mean no high end ports that only works with WinUAE only or a an Amiga Highend System, good ports for AGA needed that will running on 030 Systems for the mass of users not for a handfull of 060 users.

Who is this "The Amiga" you are talking about? Do you think if you stopped people from porting open source software in their free time, they would start developing original software from scratch instead?

I'm willing to give $1000 to anyone who can make System Shock playable on a 030

Yeah, and 25 years ago when it was a viable commercial platform it definitely did. But nowadays, take what enthusiasts are willing to work on.
