making backup copy of Workbench 2.04 disk
Trying to make a backup of my original Workbench 2.04 disk, within Workbench, but it keeps saying "Cannot read Workbench2.0" after getting about three-quarters of the way.
According to a similar thread here, I might need to use xcopy instead - I don't have xcopy (at least, not a working copy). Can anyone help? ps. sorry if this is a silly question (I'm still getting back into this after many years) |

It sounds like your disk has read errors (could work with another drive), so I don't think another program will do any better.

You can try to copy some important files only but this way you can not copy bootblock.

Thanks, I think the disk is okay - I've just tried copying it from DF1 to DF0 instead. Same result.. Plus I've been using it without any problems. Just want a backup quick

If DiskCopy fails to read the disk, then it is already dying. You should make a backup with a program which can ignore read errors ASAP.

I wanted to back-up 2.04 as Octamed Sound Studio wanted to modify my Workbench disk (adding some fonts I think), and I want my original un-touched (and preferably, safely stashed while I use a back-up). Turns out OSS will run from WB 1.3, although I've barely used/tested it yet. Cheers Last edited by museum; 08 January 2013 at 22:16. Reason: clarity |
