Using old modem with serial port

I have my Amiga 2000 connected to a modem (TNC2s) via serial cable.
It works fine for packet radio.

I would love to get this modem/tnc to work using UAE.
So I installed a USB to serial port cable on a PC.
The serial port is recognized on the PC and seen as COM5.

IN WINUAE port configuration the port is available. (com5)
But when I start my software on the Amiga, the modem is not seen. It's the same as if there was no modem at all.

Any advice? Is the serial port fully emulated in WinUAE?

Did you select serial.device unit 0 in Amiga side? (Serial Port GUI port selection selects which PC port is mapped to Amiga Paula serial port).

Another option is to tick uaeserial.device. This maps each PC serial to uaeserial.device. First PC port is Amiga side unit 0, second is 1 and so on. (uaeserial.device is virtual UAE device, it won't appear in DEVS

Don't tick other serial port options until you get communication working except Host RTS/CTS if modem is configured for RTS/CTS handshaking.

I followed your advice.
No success.

While I was using a different serial cable for the USB-serial converter (a db9 an d not the same db25<>db25 I am using on the A2000) I thought: maybe the cable is the problem.

Went to the local thrift store and luckily they had a box with old cables.
Found a serial db25 <> db25 + db9 connector.
Connected it and it works!

Awesome!
Now I can go live 24/7 with my old bbs without straining my old A2000
