Floppy disk for those about to transfer disks

just thought i'd let you all know about a cool ADF transfer program i found called tequila (find it on aminet) ...

you can even do it with an amiga 500 with 0.5 mb ram. plus its easy to use and you don't need to bother with crossdos or some kind of serial cable.

hope this helps some people

It's actually called Tequilla.

tequilla.lha

Short: Writes Amiga Disks from Amiga Dos Images (ADF) files
Author: Anthony James Crawley
Type: disk/misc

This tool will transfer Amiga disk images (i.e. ADF's) from the PC
to the Amiga without the complexity of chunking files/using serial
cables etc. Its basically 2 programmes :-
This tool is beta - revised versions will be coming soon.

PC version Writes the ADF to 720k dos disk(s) (486 or greater)
Amiga version Reads from the PC 720k dos disk(s) (Any Amiga)
Writes a new Amiga disk from it.

Features include compression for fewer disk swaps and the ability
to overwrite the PC transfer disk (if you've enough ram)
Should work on All Amiga models as its os legal.
Ideal for plain A500 with no ram expansion or external drives.

Soudns neat, I never tried this tool myself, for I use a serial connection and TransADF (I have an HD)

This tool should be added to the transfer announcement

Question Does it work?

Has anyone of you ever tried Tequila? Here at work I cannot get this transfer-program to work. This program sounds too good to be true.

I haven't tried it, but why does it sound too good to be true?

It sounds like a file splitter made especially for ADF files. Something like this can be written in 5 minutes

Arrow Disc formats

I am just curious whether it is possible: converting an ADF file to disc on my PC. If I am correct Amiga and PC have different disc formats. I cannot imagine one can easily write Amiga discs on PC.

I really hope that Tequila works. I will convert many ADF's to disc then because my original Amiga is starving for 'new' games.

Is that what it does?

I interpreted it as:

- Get 880k ADF File
- Split ADF file into 2 chunks. 1 is 720kb (to fit onto PC disk). The other is 160kb
- Copy the 2 chunks to the Amiga (you need PC reading capabilities)
- Use this program again to join the files
- You now have an 880kb ADF on your Amiga. Put it back onto disk

If it does as I've just explained, it's incredibly standard. If it does what you say, then it's (sort of) been done using Disk2FDI. If it does what Disk2FDI does and more, then it's too good to be true

I tried this program once but never got it to work. It kept messing up the files for me. I don't know if it was me who made the mistakes though.

Cool Tequilla

It sounds like the program is just another file splitter, but one that automates more of the process e.g.

On Amiga:
1. Reads disk into ADF file
2. Compresses ADF
3. Splits ADF into 720k (or less) chunks
4. Writes chunks to PC formatted floppy inserted by user

Exclamation

oh dear seems like i was misinterpreted by some "clever" people here....

okay it definitely does not write amiga disks on the PC thats a fact. it is "just another file splitter" but in my opinion its the best one i found to do the job quickly and easily. its also a far easier method than transferring the file over a serial cable.

the prog takes the ADF file on the PC then it can pack the file also to make it fit on to a 720k disk (won't always fit but in many occasions it does). then all you need to do is take this disk to the Amiga and run another program there that will read this ADF file from the PC disk into RAM (or directly to another drive), then writes it out as a Amiga disk to whichever blank disk u like. Then the ADF is now a real amiga disk.

Maybe you have better ways to transfer your old ADF files but I find this quicker and easier than CrossDos or serial-> cable. Also, the bonus is that it will even work on a500 with 512k RAM and kickstart 1.3.

sorry for any confusion caused, there will never be a way to write Amiga disks using a PC unless you use specific hardware for the job.

Cool Transfer

My method of file transfer between Amiga/PC and vice versa is quick and easy - write the files to CDs!

Samurai, I found AExplorer to be quiet slow on my system! TwinExpress gives me a 115200 connection, while AExplorer only lets me go to 19200 :P

It is quite fast, I like it

Stick out tongue

Tequilla does work a treat apart from all the disk swapping that is! But like Cody say the best way to transfer files is to burn them to CD! :eek

Hmmm, this Tequila thingy refuses to work here ?! Anyway, burning the files on CD is indeed the fastest method .....

Cool

ok ok I see sense now...
while this was a good program i have also found better method of transferring - ie. CDRom and it is much easier with a HD!
