Reading JOY1DAT fails on real hardware

I'm trying to implement joystick support in EmuTOS.

For that, I read JOY1DAT. It works fine with WinUAE, but fails on real hardware: nothing is read. I suspect something related to POTGO. Some subtle difference which is not emulated by WinUAE. Strangely, even button 1 at bit 7 of CIAAPRA does not return anything.

Any hints?

Not much information...

JOY1DAT (and 0) always work, there is no way to disable them.

EDIT: POTGO can only affect second and third button. Fire/left mouse is CIA-only. Sounds like hardware problem.

Damn! You are right Thanks for the hint.
My cheap joypad, which used to work fine, is now broken for unknown reason
Additional hardware tests show that my code works perfectly

Sorry for the noise.
