Operation Thunderbolt

Hi mates,

I'm trying to run Operation Thunderbolt (.ipf version, SPS ID #547) in WinUAE, with my usual A500 config.

Is it normal that I cannot see the gun pointer? I can only see it when firing, not before!
It's impossible to play it this way .

Is there something wrong (not with my 100% ultra-tested config) ?

EDIT: if, after loading the game, I press the F8 key and I set the joystick control, then I can see a red pointer during the game.
But if the mouse control is set, I have the above described "problem"...

I have done a quick check, and indeed at beginning you dont see any gun pointer, but after a while you have one, i dont know, if you have to earn one while playing.

Yes, its a laser sight, you earn it from a powerup dropped.

Mmmm, do you mean it's normal to fire "blindly"?

I suppose it must be.

They wanted the mouse to mimic a light gun, and you didn't have a target with the gun...

Impossible...! With a gun you can aim, but with a mouse without a visible cursor you can't know where you're aiming. I will investigate further..

Looking at the original arcade ( [ Show youtube player ]) I think that KG is right. Seems they have 'forgotten' to activate the crosshair for the mouse

Hmmm, is there someone who can try it on a real Amiga?
Just to make sure it's not a WinUAE config issue...

I remember this game coming out and the reviews commenting on no crosshair.
You are meant to track your fire by using the impacts of missed rounds.

EDIT

see this review on AMR

Yep, have a look at page 55 here : http://amr.abime.net/issue_163_pages
The 'Unlike Op Wolf...' bit gives it away.

Edit : Nice one DDNI Now we have two sources that there is no crosshair

@ DDNI & TCD:

it seemed so strange to me (no visible target pointer, I mean), but... you're right .
Ok, I do NOT like Operation Thunderbolt

Me neither I also find it really odd that you have to follow your missed bullets to know where you shoot at.

Usually you have to shoot equipment boxes to get the laser sight, but
press 'F8' and fire at the same time on the title screen and you will
start a 1 player game with laser sight. For 2 players press 'F2'
instead of 'F8' on the title screen.

On the high score table enter your name as "WIGAN NINJA", to recieve
infinite lives. Also if you get a score of 50,000 or more die and
type "SPECCY MODE" on the high score table. This will give you twice
as many enemies. Press 'F8', 'F7', 'F6', 'F5', 'F4', 'F3', 'F8' and
then 'F1' three times (oR 'F2' three times) ('F1' and 'F2' are for
what player is to have the sight). This will give you the laser sight
thoughout the game. Also, type "EDOM TAEHC" on the high score table
for infinite lives.

In fact - HAL has the above information
