Probably fastest decompression algorythm on amiga 500

Hello

I find it on some forum, and find it interesting enough to share this with you.

Someone has created its own LZ4 derivative optimised for Motorola 68000 with decompression speed 760kB per second, which is i believe the fastest there is on Amiga.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!to...4c/oe1IWpuk8tE

Sometimes such fst decompression routine could be handy.

The author of the LZ4-packer (Stephane Dallongeville) presented it some time ago here at EAB: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...8&postcount=17 . Unfortunately, his account is not active here anymore.

It's really a nice decompressor, really fast with a reasonable compression ratio.

Didn't the XPK suite have some tool to dump info about the implementations - IIRC there was one doing >800K/s?

In the official pages there is this https://www.dstoecker.eu/xpkLibTest.txt

However it is made on 68060, so it is directly not usable. But I think we can see there that the speedy ones are not the best compression wise

There are some candidates though: FAST (no surprise there) and SLZ3 (which is a bit surprising). Maybe you can try those?

My faint memory tells me this particular one stored the compressed data in reverse direction. I could be wrong about the speed of it.
