kick start rom 3.1

Hi I have 3.1 roms in my amiga but with all the set patch libray mods and stuff it reboots several times on power up that is annoying.

is there some way to get updated roms with all this stuff resident so I don't need the constant rebooting ?

I see there is legal clanto amiga forever roms on ebay would this sort my issuies or do I need to burn my own roms with the new librarys embedded or something ?

What patches do you have?
You CAN make your own ROM image, with some libraries and stuff added to it/changed, but not everything.
You shouldn't patch that much as idrougge says anyway, so tell us exactly what you are doing and we can help more.

Cloanto will not help you in any way and you shouldn't give them money anyway.

Most patches have an option to delay their reboot, so you can install them all and then just have one reboot to activate them. It's worth checking the documentation for each of them to see which ones support NOREBOOT or similar arguments.

There are some updated ROMs available, such as Cloanto's 3.X RAMs. These will get rid of one reboot (for the scsi.device), but that's an update that doesn't need its own reboot anyway, so you still won't eliminate them.

There's no kickflash device that I know of for the A1200, but it is possible to create custom ROMs that might help. Several people have done it for OS 3.9 installations that don't need a reboot. There are guides available, but if you don't have the hardware for burning your own PROMs it's probably easier to just put up with one reboot.

No experience with WarpUP, but you could make a custom rom with all your patches, and use blizzkick with that rom. Then you'll have only one reboot. (It's a bit of work though..)
When you're happy and everything is stable, you can have someone burn it for you.
(But real rom is slightly slower than blizzkick so some prefer to keep that one reboot)

It depends on how it's configured. I had to do a little bit of rearranging of it and other patches in order to get a 3.1 install with no reboot required. So no, it doesn't require a reboot to work.

There exist somewhere some kind of list of the most important patches for the ROM 3.1 / AOS3.9?

That depends entirely on what your needs are, or what you try to accomplish.

I don't know of a comprehensive list, since there are probably hundreds of patches out there, many with similar or overlapping functions. Packages like ClassicWB, AmiKit etc. compile many of the common patches into a bundle for ease of use, and OS 3.9 Boingbag 4 includes a bundle of patches and updates to the standard 3.9 BB2 components too.

From the top of my head though, I would consider these important:

scsi.device updates (3.1)
FBlit
FText
MoveVBR
PrepareEmul
mmu.library suite

Blizkick can be used for applying lots of patches in one go without having to reboot multiple times, and LoadModule definitely has a NOREBOOT switch, so can be similarly used to load multiple replacement ROM components with just one reboot required.

I have an willem eeprom burner so I can create my own but from what I have read that I may have to sacrifice a few librarys for the greater good because of the rom size.

from what I gateer here is the memory map for the amiga 1200 :

000000 to 1FFFFF 2 MBChip RAM(or system ROM overlay)
200000 to 5FFFFF 4 MBZorro II expansion space
600000 to 9FFFFF 4 MBCredit Card memory if CC present
A00000 to A1FFFF 128 KB Credit Card Attributes
A20000 to A3FFFF 128 KB Credit Card I/O
A40000 to A5FFFF 128 KB Credit Card Bits (similar to CDTV)
A60000 to A7FFFF 128 KB PC I/O
A80000 to B7FFFF 1 MB System ROM selected
B80000 to BEFFFF4 48 KB Not used(Reserved for CDTV)
BF0000 to BFFFFF 64KB 8520CIAs
C00000 to CFFFFF 1 MBC00000 Memory
D00000 to D7FFFF 512 KB PC memory
D80000 to D8FFFF 64 KB SPARE chip select
D90000 to D9FFFF 64 KB ARCNET chip select
DA0000 to DA3FFF 16 KB IDE drive
DA4000 to DA4FFF 16 KB IDE reserved
DA8000 to DAFFFF 32 KB Credit Card and IDE configregisters
DB0000 to DBFFFF 64 KB Not used(reserved for external IDE)
DC0000 to DCFFFF 64 KB Real Time Clock(RTC)
DD0000 to DDFFFF 64 KB RESERVED for DMA controller
DE0000 to DEFFFF 64 KB Not Used
DF0000 to DFFFFF 64 KB Chip Registers
E00000 to E7FFFF 512 KB System ROM(lst half if 1MB ROM)
E80000 to EFFFFF 512 KB Configuration and I/O card space
F00000 to F7FFFF 512 KB Flash ROM space
F80000 to FFFFF 512 KB System ROM(2nd half if 1MB ROM)

this would indicate to me that I can use a 1MB rom I was hoping to install larger roms and put everything in there I can fit.

if this is so what rom chips do I need to buy as I cant seem to find much info.

You don't need to sacrifice anything. A1200 suports 1 mb roms.

Here is mfilos excellent guide

http://www.mfilos.com/2010/12/guide-...kickstart.html

Few notes.

mfilos says that DummyCDstrap is optinol module for BlizzardPPC and CyberstormPPC accelerators. It is NEEDED with any accelerator with MMU. Without it MMU locks extended memory area and you can't copy kickstrat to fast ram.

Thor's MuLib's MuFastRom supports 1mb kickstart, with it you can load kicksart to fast ram. RemApollo also works if you have a Apollo accelerator.

This only applies to a 1MB Kickstart and Thor's v46+ MMU lib doesn't need DummyCDStrap any more. DummyCDStrap isn't needed at all with a 512kb Kickstart.

For the Blizzard PPC, since you're going to want to kill the onboard ppc.library you're going to want to add that blizkick module. Don't know what you need IDEFix for if you update the scsi.device to 43.45. You should be able to fit all this into a 512kb kickstart if you use the WBTag module which will just load Workbench.library from libs:. Mediator doesn't require a reboot (maybe A1200 version does?).

Easiest thing to do is build your new kickstart and softkick it to make sure it works first and if you did it right until you burn a new ROM you should be able to get away with a single reboot which is the softkick.
