Internal hd on a500?

Hello everyone, new guy on the forums.

I just picked up a mint condition a1200 for a fiver and am currently experimenting with various kinds of ide harddisk drives and compacflash drives.

Now I'd really like to know if something similar is possible with my old a500 unit? I'm imagining something like a 2.5" hd or a cf card tucked away under the hood and somehow hooked up with the expansion port on the left side of the machine. I searched in google and these forums using all the obvious search terms, but nothing came up.

Cheers,
Mike

there are internal a500 ide units which plug into the cpu socket.
Maybe someone else can tell you what name to search for
Edit: try googling 'ide68k'. But i'm sure there are others

There is the gvp hd8+ but it's not internal it's a bolt on unit to the side with a separate psu, and usually a ram upgrade

Oh and welcome to the forum

Ok, I did a little more research on how to put a 2.5" ide harddisk into an a500 and found this. It's called AdIDE 44 (novia) and is produced by a company called ICD.

Does anyone here use this piece of hardware or anything similar? Is this the way to go? I'd rather not buy any gadgets unless it's been confirmed to work by someone who's not selling it :-)

Apparently you can build your own device from this schematic. I suppose it takes some previous experience with electronics to build this - let alone reading the diagram :-)

Cheers,
Mike

The AdIDE works, but it's not very commonly available. Also it becomes a bit hairy when working with devices over 1GB.

Get Mika Leinonen's IDE interface instead?

@Jope: when using Leilonen's IDE solution also the A500 kickstart ROM must be replaced for either a 2.05 (37.300 or 37.350), 3.1 (40.063) or even a custom-made 1.3 with appended SCSI.device.
