Thanks. So if I got a domain with 1&1 you're saying there's no SMTP authentication and it would work on the A500+?

Unfortunately my ISP do not offer the same.

Hi Starglider 2,

The company I work for moved from 1&1 email to Outlook365 last year.

We still have a domain registered with 1&1. Our product (Hotel Software) can send emails so I use it for testing.
Actually I am working on this right now for spamming sending promotional material.

I will give it a test tomorrow to see if unauthenticated SMTP still works.

Can anyone point me to a download of YAM 1.3.3 or 1.3.5 (for 68000) please? Can't find it on the official YAM site or on Aminet.

Sorry for the delay. 1&1's email servers does appear to not need SSL (I tested it with a small dot net app).

I'm building a Amiga at the moment. When it's up and running I'll check if YAM works. Currently my 160Gb harddrive is being recognised as 8G...

I wonder how 1&1 avoid spammers.

Wait, with 1&1 you just put a password with no AUTH, correct? I think the only issue with A500+ mail apps is that they CAN do passwords but just can't do AUTH. So it should work, if I'm correct?

My assistant called 1&1:

they do offer domains where you can choose to either disable or enable SMTP authentication

Please let us know how it goes. If it works for you with YAM or SimpleMail I'd be tempted to do the same thing and use the 1&1 account as a forwarding account for my main email.

I'm waiting for my Plipbox before I can actually test SMTP on the Amiga itself, but I did go ahead and buy a domain from 1and1.com. Unfortunately so far I can't find any option to turn off TLS...

I just tried YAM with 1and1 and it successfully receives and sends emails.
My SMTP settings are simple:

Server: smtp.1and1.com
Port: 25
Connection Security: No Security
Authentification: Auto
User name: ...
Password: ...

That's great! Did you have to disable anything in the 1&1 control panel or do you simply do nothing different and it just works?

This is on an A500+ or similar as per this thread, right?

I tested with WinUAE.

I work in the hotel industry and a web booking system wants to sends us bookings via email (which is very strange...). I just created a regular account. We have a business account but I don't think that matters.

I used this account for testing.

I've just got my backup Amiga 4000 online. I'm using a Raspberry PI via the serial port to connect to the internet (I plan to write a guide for this BTW). It's working great (but slow!)

I'll test this on a real Amiga and let you know.

That worked fine. I don't have AmiSSL installed on this box and YAM gives a warning (I guess I do in WinUAE).

Great!

1. What model was your "real Amiga"?
2. Was the UAE setup as an A500+?

Today, according to the 1&1 agent, changing the outgoing server port number to 25 and unmarking the "outgoing server requires authentication" option on your mail client will allow emails to be sent. This tallies with what you experienced above.

The "Real Amiga" I tested YAM with is an A4000/030.
Connected to a blurry A520 modulator. I'll blame you if I lose my eyesight :-)

It really should not matter though.
