Here's the exact process I undertook:
  • Copied some posts out of this thread to a new thread under the project.Amiga Game Factory section.
  • Moved most of the remaining posts to this new thread.
  • Copied two other additional posts out of this thread to the new thread.
  • Viewed the newly created thread. All good but noticed that I'd duplicated post #1 & #2.
  • Selected only post #1 and then hard deleted this.
Boom, the whole new thread was now gone!!!

So, it seems that if you delete the first post in a thread then everything goes

I need to test this theory in a dummy thread...

No need to test it, my friend. That's all it takes!

...at the end of the day it's not that big a deal. The important Green Beret posts are still in this thread thankfully

The main topic of the deleted thread / remaining posts were related to:

a) what version is this based on.
Answer: a mix of both the arcade and 8bit versions.

b) gameplay seems too slow.
Answer: yes, this is being worked on and will be improved.

Clash Force - 8-bit inspired run and gun appears on Steam

Quote:
If playing on emulators and searching for old hardware isn't your thing you may be interested to know Spicy Gyro Games and published by Shiny Dolphin Games LLC, have released their first indie game on Steam as 'Clash Force'; a retro styled run-and-gun game in the style of classic NES platformers and side scrolling shooters. In the game you play as a member of the Clash Force, a weaponry force of stopping the Evil Crackman and his minions from causing mayhem. You'll fight through forest bases, hydrofied deserts, underground mines, and eventually to Crackman's Flying Fortress where the final battle will unfold!

Thy Sword - Tiny pixelated action platformer gets an early launch Trailer

Quote:
Even more retro inspirations today and one that looks a lot more pixelated than Tower 57, is the upcoming hack n' slash platformer ' Thy Sword ' which not only had a successful Steam Greenlight campaign we've since been told the developers GamePhase have released a brand new launch Trailer to coincide with a possible November release! As noted by our previous write ups, Thy Sword draws its inspiration from Norse mythology with a touch of Conan the Barbarian, mixed up with great games such as Golden Axe, Moonstone and surprisingly enough Bubble Bobble.

Nogalious - Multiplatform retro inspired game is aiming for a Kickstarter success

Quote:
Do you want to play a retro inspired game that doesn't just have the look of a retro game but works on classic systems such as the Amstrad and MSX while also supporting through funding modern platforms such as Steam, Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Switch? Then look no further than Nogalious : The Chronicles; an upcoming 2D adventure platformer with 5 universes created pixel by pixel, a vintage adventure inspired by the golden era of 8-bit video games that is aiming for a Kickstarter success!

Let's hope RCK can salvage it from one of his backups.

Or is there any member here who can upload to The Zone for me a recent offline copy of the thread pages containing the now missing posts?

TIA
All the cached versions that Google has only seem to reveal one missing post AFAI can tell - post #778 by majikeyric, I think. Probably worth restoring if it is indeed missing.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=au (see last post)

EDIT: Oops, the first post by Retrofan on the cached page above also appears to be missing. That's two missing posts for restoration, but I gather at least a couple more posts(?) have disappeared into the ether for good unless RCK can access some backups. Fingers crossed!

Yes, it seems you are right, DrBong. Thanks for your reponse.

That post alone won't be much help, but it's better than nothing.

It'll be interesting to see whether RCK has any backups which cover that period.

Cheers Carlo

...there were a few other posts on the previous page also.

Anyway, as said a few posts above, nothing significant, and I've already provided the relevant discussion details.

Let me try a few things when back in London (plus have access to a computer as opposed to a mobile phone) and if unsuccessful then maybe RCK can help.

External Visions - Demo released for team BitClub's upcoming Metroidvania

Quote:
Most of us on Indie Retro News are huge fans of platformers, especially ones that are known as a Metroidvania, a sub-genre of an action adventure game, with concepts similar to Metroid and Castlevania hence the term. One such game that will appeal to you Metroidvanians is a game called ' External Visions ' by team BitClub. A new game that is in development with a recent demo, that takes the player through the life of an average man escaping his depression in an imaginary world he created around him.

Prepare to be disappointed.

That's disappointing. Well, Julian Eggebrecht said in a German podcast that he "found" this version on old disks. So, more like a uncompleted version.

Played this Demo last year. It's really awesome. But it don't think we'll see a complete version in the next 2-3 years. This remake takes a lot of time. Unless Square Enix/Eidos shut it down before.

Nice new platformer demo for the MD. Reminds me of Mega Man and Gargoyles Quest. A playable demo is linked in the youtube clip info.

Well fast forward to today however and do we have some truly stonking news for you fine folks! As thanks to the hard work of team Pyron, they have released an overhauled and remastered edition of Street Fighter 2, for the Sega Mega Drive.

But this latest news update is pretty impressive indeed! As if you've got a Vectrex or thinking of getting one, you might be interested to know that Ralf Kornmann is working on bringing that classic space game of "Elite" over to that classic retro system!

Metal Warrior Ultra, a remake of the original C64 game, is available via Digital Download. A bit pricey, but it's a great game with some nice improvements (much better controls, slighty different story ARC etc).
