Why do you want a saveslot after killing the methanoids ?
Can't kill 'm yourself ? Then you probably use the wrong strategy. I've cleared the game several times in the past and I can't recall it being so difficult. |

Most likely members either don't want to reply or are unable to! We have seperate forums for a reason and just because you think members don't read these sections doesn't mean you can flount the rules and post anywhere! |

Well, when you kill the methanoids, the game is actually over. So I guess you mean you need a save slot after you've killed the ones in the solar system ? (yes, other systems are full of meths as well)
first of all, you need to stack metals, all 50.000. And you need to choose your colonies wisely, chosing ones which have the metals necessary for drone production. Especially first three metals, iron, titanium, aluminium are exceptionally important. You need to keep at least two full strength ships in orbit to protect your colony. Sometimes, when meths begin attacking at full strength, you may see you're losing the battle. Then you pull back the first fleet and continue defending with the second one. Also, if you lose earth, the game is over, so the meths don't attack earth until they finish off other systems, so you can cheat and keep earth unguarded. When you finish them off the solar system, your task becomes somewhat simpler cause you can send your captains to interstellar flights which make them warlords, which means 2000 strength fleets. You don't need to keep all the bases you capture from meths, I actually kept only few which gave the important metals, and one colony which gave helium, which can only be found in two planets (in solar system). Just keep them empty, sending minerals to base and blow them up when a meth fleet attacks them. |

I see that a orbital factory can be built at the sun, is that worth doing?

I thought they started attacking after X number of colonies.
Last time I played it (about 2 years ago) I couldnt get past the Methanoids easier... Back when I played it on Amiga, I remember defeating those in the solar system, and then nothing seemed to happen beyond that, never found anything beyond that... I think I did something wrong or missed a key event ... |

Actually, there are two ways to start the war. First, you build the 6xth colony, and they come after you. Second is trading for a long time and waiting for the traitor to show up. The second way is more complete, cause if you go the first way, the laser gismo will always stay undiscovered in your science table, and you'll always wonder what it is.
BlackAda, when you defeat meths in the solar system, you should find plans for an interstellar craft in their colony. You can research it and start colonising other stars. You also need helium to fuel those ships though. |
