A590 jumper?
Hi Again,
I have succeeded to get me a 200MB scsi hd to replace the 20mb hd in the A590! I just wanted to check the 20mb again,but due to some fiddling to get this hd recognized in windows earlier on i have changed the jumpers(silly me). Now i have lost the little piece of paper where the correct jumper setting was written on Can someone help me out to get the jumper setting right on the standard scsi drive(20mb) of the A590? looks like ::::: Thanx Sjakie43 |

Have you tried refitting the orignal drive and seeing if that still works? Edit: Sorry just read your message again - that'll teach me to read messages fully ;-) Just in case it's your new drive Dave G Last edited by davideo; 22 May 2008 at 22:48. Reason: Goofup |

Don't know the settings offhand, Will googling the Drive Model No help!!
SCSI ID can be anything from 0-6 (Controller is 7), as long as you don't have 2 devices with same ID Should be fine, a clash will cause the system to lockup usually. Check Termination as rk has previously said on the 20MB Drive, also maybe It got corrupted when plugged into your PC. If no go Look after the new 200MB HD and just retire the old one after all 20MB is just too small |

Hi Corfiot,
Yes, i'm still sorting some demos to put on the 200mb Scsi hd. But maybe i am setting the jumpers wrong? I have looked at the details on this site>http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-dri...-SCSI1-SE.html But maybe you are right and the drive got corrupted. Regards Sjakie43 |

@sjakie43
My age is getting to me I thought my sidecar was a 590 - now I've dug it out of the cupboard - it's an AlfaPower. They're IDE not SCSI. Sorry mate - you'll have to keep searching Dave G |

ID 0 is OK for a SCSI HD on any SCSI controller.
Just a question: did you mess with the termination of the HD? HDs without the termination will become "no-findable" due the ripple on the SCSI bus. Also check the SCSI cable and the resistor packs (terminations) in both controller and HD. |

Thanx Chain
I have checked the 200mb scsi and it's booting perfect on the real amiga. So the only thing left is the scsi id i guess Termination is just the same ,no changes, i have checked the way the cable is connected. Sjakie43 |

Hey, as Chain said, the original 590 drive is NOT a SCSI one, it's an XT drive (8-bit IDE)
There's a jumper AFAIR at the lower right corner of PCB, which determines SCSI or XT drive selection. It must be indicated on the PCB. It's been a long time since I last opened my A590, but this is definately the solution... Switch back to XT drive selection! |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't find an evidence that Commodore ever sold an A590 with a SCSI drive. Unfortunately the service manual doesn't say what drives were used. Both drives I'm sure the A590 was sold with are XT ones, they are Western Digital WD93028X (pic) and Epson HMD755.
Do you have a different drive there, sjakie? |
