i didnt but the A7000 , someone else did . so ive started building an Aros system with Amiga emulation built in - i cant justify the cost of a machine which cannot use the internet! an sadly the A1200 amiga cant easily do this , a ppc Amiga is big money !

Anyway if anyone is interested i will post my adventures in Aros and its Amiga capability...while keeping an eye open for an A3000 archie lol

Out of the a3000,a3010 & a3020 is the first best for game compatibility? and are there many titles that wont work on the later models

Thanks

A3000 is probably best. Zarch, Conquerer, and Enter the Realm all have problems above 8mhz. Also A3000s can be fitted with ARM3 upgrades which will boost speed massively (8->25mhz usually) , but can also be slowed back to normal speed with *cache off. And there are probably a few older games whose protection only works on A3000.

Downside is double density floppies only, no built-in joystick interface (A3010 only) and no built-in IDE interface (A3020 only). Oh, and Fire & Ice won't work properly - but it's a mediocre port so you're not missing much.

I've never tried an arc emulator before - but after reading this thread and getting nostalgic over some of the games I played at school I think I'll give it a go.

If you go to the Qube server (link above) Charlie has put together a "ready to go" arculator environmentbuild. "Classic Risc OS" has lots of things built in. Double click and go.

I've been more successful running games on Arculator than RPCEmu though?

On RPCemu it seems to take ages to load the adf into memory and then when I click the executable I'm getting errors when its trying to boot it? ...but on arculator the games I've tried seem to work fine every time (and the only thing I configured is changing the setting to arm3 33mhz to speed it up).

I'm obviously a complete noob to both arc emu's but for quickly playing games arculator seems to work fine for me.

I think I'm just crap at the game? lol I can't seem to control the car very well using the mouse? ..although its been many moons since I played it originally.

I've got my games, demos and apps from the arc tosec but I can't find two games I wanted to play on the emu that I remember from my school days (BattleChess and Virus)? Do dumps of these exist and are they playable on the arc emu's? ...also are they different to the omeba versions or just quick ports??

I just did a quick google for the arc game Virus and...

"Zarch started off as a demo called Lander and was bundled with almost all releases of the Acorn Archimedes. Zarch was later renamed as Virus and ported to the Commodore Amiga..." - Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zarch

I'll keep hunting.

Also sorry to take this thread slightly offtopic from mjnurney purchasing an arc!

My work is about to throw out 2 Acorn A7000 computers. Do you think they are worth saving?

OK let me rephrase that slightly. I have no interest in Acorn's. I just would rather see them go to someone that wants them rather than the trash. Do you think there's much of a retro scene for Acorn's?

If there's anyone in the Auckland region that wants them free, you are welcome to them.
