What are your fav platformers?

No, Ididn't mean the shoes! But if you want to attach some images of funky footwear feel free!

This is a sequel to RCK's excellent thread about shmups, what about platformers? What are your favourite platformers (again all systems)?

Obviously my fave is Bomb Jack

Sometimes simplicity is best. I have never ben addicted to a game like I have been to this one. Its the game that goes on the most on my PC.

Other favs include the Bubble Bobble games, Sonic 1 & 2, Super Mario Bros World and Fire and Ice

I can't pick a fave (since I know I'll miss out on so many), but I've always loved Giana Sisters on both the C64 and Amiga

True greatness there

Platformers eh? So hard to chose a favorite.

I think that on the C64 my favorite would be Bubble bobble (This also goes for the arcade version). But seeing as this is an Amiga forum I guess I should at least make some distinct choices for the Amiga. And I didn't like the Amiga conversion.

I really liked the lost vikings on the Amiga, though I'm not completely sure that qualifies as a full platform game since it has a good deal of puzzle elements.

But I really liked Cloud kingdoms, but then there aren't that many platform, but it's still widely concerned with jumping right?

Otherwise Superfrog or Globdule would have to be my favorite. I think Globdule would win over superfrog though.

(And now I know someone is going to come around soon and list a game I hadn't thought of which I liked better)

Thumbs up

Okay this thread is new, but as far as arcade platformers go you have to have Ghost'n'Goblins & it's sequel Ghoul'n'Ghosts. Absolute classics thank U MAME!!

As for the amiga that's a tad tougher, but Bubble Bobble has to be considered. I didn't mind Addams Family as far as "console" platformers went, though I've gotta ask-
Why did Nintendo threaten to sue over Great Giana Sisters being a rip-off yet years later allowed Addam's Family,(a Mario-esque clone), by Ocean??

Just think,if G.G.S had been released for C64/Amiga by Rainbow Arts history might have been different??.....

@RetroMan

But I play nearly all my fave platform games on my PC!

Emulated of course!

Anyone remember tom Thumb on the +4?

I really used to love that game!

Could Joust be regarded as a platform game? It does have platforms in it. I played this for hours and hours on my ST, then an emulated PSX version and now on my PC!

Well, I was speaking of PC-ONLY games, not emulation I only use emulation, if I do not own the original system, but since I own all systems I have listed above, there is no need for me to use emulation - YOU CANNOT BEAT THE REAL THING !!!

Actually there was a PC game I quite liked called Abuse. I don't know if it exists on other platforms, but that was actually a half decent platform game which could really have been popular if people had known about it.

Platformers

So many but Yo Joe and Ruff and Tumble are my choices on the amiga and I suppose gods is up there too. Out of the three Ruff and Tumble has got to be the winner i think.

I liked harlequin by gremlin too, although the puzzles were too simple I suppose (the old "pull the lever puzzle" has been done to death on games).

Oh yeah that's right Amigaboy. I know they released the source code and it was ported to Linux, but I never heard of the Amiga port.

Now I just need an amiga powerful enough to pull it. Or to kill my Geforce so I have a good excuse to get a new graphics card which will handle 2D well enough to run emulation well enough.

And as I predicted someone did indeed throw a name I forgot to take into consideration. Yo! Joe! was most definately a good game which I think in my personal list beats Globdule.

Abuse was really, really cool- but beware, on the harder levels, it becomes really, really hard! It's one of those games that really torments you...it took me aaaaaaaages to complete.

My fav miggy platformers? Giana Sisters, Turrican 1 + 2, Switchblade 2, and the Shadow of the Beasts (although I found the Beast games pretty hard, too.) Blues Brothers and Leander are also up there...

But Gods was always my favourite, coz I've always preferred the platformers with a more serious feel, not the happy go lucky, squeaky clean platformers like Mario or Sonic.

I didn't like Shadow Of The Beast on the Amiga...I think the Atari Lynx version was sooo much better
