Help Konrad with WHDLoad Thread (was: WHDLoad flicker)
Ok guys, I know I already read a topic about my problem, but I can't find it. Anyway, my problem is that the picture flickers in some games when whdload is loading files. I tried every possible config in WinUAE (no Jit, reducing ram, ocs/ecs chipset settings, ...), also fiddled around with the WHDLoad switches. Didn't help, the games are still flickering.
Examples: Moonstone when the game is loading, BeneathASteelSky CD32 when playing speech. Last edited by Konrad; 29 March 2007 at 20:37. |

Increase fast memory, add preload into tooltype and if A500 title make sure you set CPU to run at A500 speed (and disable JIT).
This should do it. ps. Make sure you don't add preload to BeneathASteelSky if you didn't set memory to 128MB. |

It was a problem with PRELOAD.
What's strange is that I created a HDF with Moonstone. In the Startup-Sequence I wrote "WHDLoad Moonstone.slave PRELOAD". With this the flickering appeared. I just tried "WHDLOAD PRELOAD Moonstone.slave" and now it works as it should. Strange. Thanks guys . |

what these guys haven't told you is WHY this happens!
Basically using PRELOAD all files are loaded into memory before the game starts, so the OS isn't needed! If you don'y use preload, whdload will load the files, but must switch to the OS to do so, hence you get the flickering |

In my case it wasn't the preload command, because this was already in the startup-sequence of the hdf. I have the Moonstone-HDF on a pc where I have a preconfigured Moonstone config file. The flickering happenes with that, also with preload. I then took my standart Workbench-config, added the hdf, started emulation and the flickering disappeared. So it seems that there is also a setting in WinUAE which causes that. Unfortunately I didn't keep the original (not correctly working) config file, so I don't know which .

You didn't edit the startup-sequence in windows? Maybe the CR/LF could mess with it.

No, of course not ! Please ! The game is on it's own hdf. I edited the startup-sequence from the Workbench.
What's CR/LF ? As I said, I then took my standart Workbench config file for WinUAE, added the HDF and the flickering was gone. So there's a setting in WinUAE which caused it. |

carriage return/linefeed, basically how things know its the end of a line, editing it on a pc would confuse the amiga and it wouldn't know what were new lines.
pretty sucky explanation, but its the best i can do |

So you're using preload with BASS or no?

No preload > flickering when speech is played. I think I saw a thread about BASS yesterday. Will take a look there. I don't really want to use preload with this game .

Ok. New Problem with Speedball 2 CD32. I get alot of graphic glitches with the game.
I used the Speedball2CD32-package of killergorilla with: Quickstart > A1200 > 4MB Fastram expanded configuration WHDLoad preload speedball2cd32.slave no patches startet (booted with no startup-sequence) Good to see in the "player edit" screen. I've uploaded a small video to the zone. I get the same error with the ISO of Speedball2CD32 and Quickstart > CD32, so it's not a whdload problem. But I wonder why both versions produce glitches, although I use the quickstart configs... |

I'm to lazy to test the ISO & WHDLoad version. But Jean's JST Patch works fine in WinUAE.
http://jffabre.free.fr/amiga/patchcd32.html Edit: Tested the WHDLoad version with OS3.9 & CWB, no glitches here. Also fine with the CD image in CD32 emulation. Last edited by Retro-Nerd; 30 March 2007 at 03:29. |

I've no problem or any errors with version from KG's pack.
Why are you creating HDFs for WHDLoads?? Mod should move this into WHDLoad subforum. Last edited by Anubis; 30 March 2007 at 04:29. |

For my arcade cabinet . I also tried directly from my workbench (i.e. no hdf).
I'm almost sure that this is not a problem WHDLoad, because it also happens in CD32-Mode with the ISO. So I don't think that the thread should be moved to WHDLoad forum. Do you guys use custom configs, or do you use Quickstart>A1200 ? I really don't understand why this is happening on my computer. I use the same pack others use and I used quickstart to test it (which should work AFAIU). Last edited by Konrad; 30 March 2007 at 07:47. |

I use ClassicWB Full with 2MB + 32MB fast memory.
As I said i didn't have any GFX problems with Speedball 2 CD32 WHDLoad install. Can you post picture of GFX problem? What screen? |
