Apollo 1240 and 68040.library
So I figured I wanted to do a clean Workbench 3.1 install and do my setup from scratch, to get the ultimate and personal Workbench setup
However, I'm a bit worried about the 68040.library file everyone keeps talking about. Do I get better speeds with it..? Should I get the one from the Apollo install disk or the ones from mulib, or another one? It's an Escom A1200 with kickstart 3.1 and rev 2B mobo. Thanks BTW: The Apollo 1240 worked just fine with the 2B mobo, no mods needed. Same thing with the Indivision AGA 1200. Just install and enjoy.. I guess I'm very lucky! |

It is needed for the machine's operation. There is a Commodore-supplied 68040.library with 3.1, but there are many alternatives from different turbo card manufacturers. You probably won't notice much of a speed difference..

@8bitbubsy
just install Classic Workbench 3.9 or 3.5 or Classic Workbench Advanced for that matter. You can improve processor support buy adding MMULibs. Under 3.0/3.1 MMULibs install requires to patch - setpatch so that it can load CPU support on boot time, so far I tested this on ClassicWorkbench Lite/ADV using 3.0 and 3.1 as a base install. have a read here, you will find a large thread of one of my weekends trying to get an 060 compatible workbench.
