First of all you need to have a Network Card supported by AROS, HERE find all the hardware compatible with AROS.
The Network Card also Wi-Fi, if compatible will be displayed automatically and you only need to configure with Network Prefs, see my old video:

[ Show youtube player ]

Yes, AROS has its own Native Games also 3D (Card Video Native Supported), HERE I've reviewed some of them, but if you want you can also start the classic AMiGA games through an emulator
Thanks will give it another go. I suspect maybe my FFD is dead as AROS does nothing when I insert a disk.

In all honesty, why do anything?

If they want to spend their days making an Amiga Like OS, it hurts no one.

If others want to spend their days seeing what it does, on old PC's that were doing nothing but waiting to be landfill, it also hurts no one.

Let's face facts here, we are the Model Railway Enthusiasts of the computer world.

What Floppy are you putting in? AROS can only see FAT16 formatted Floppies, can not see AmigaOS formatted Floppies (OFS-FFS)

Standard IBM PC formatted 1.44MB

The drive light comes on on boot, but once in ICAROS, it doesn't do anything even if i eject and re-insert the disk. So I'm guessing it's a drive issue. As if it's not triggering on disk insert.

It's just an old PC I had laying around.

They work well, in the screnshot I used IBM PC formatted 1.44MB (FAT16) with a USB floppy drive.
Check well it could be damaged floppies, have you tried the drive on a Windows system?

I was going to do that the other weekend, and then realised my Windows 10 box doesn't have an opening on the case for a floppy, or a floppy controller on the motherboard, as it's too new.

No big deal. I'm sure it's a hardware issue to I'll have a tinker.

Thanks for the vid re network config as well. I'll have a play with that this weekend. Perhaps I didn't "add" the network car, or it's not compatible. Will see.

Yes, now on the new PCs there are no more Floppy Drives, but as already mentioned you can use the USB Floppy Drives

Just to update, last night I actually re-setup the same machine but with Ubuntu instead of IcAros.

Ubuntu saw and used both the NIC and the FFD with no issues.

So no hardware failures. Must either be an AROS config thing or my hardware isn't compatible.

For the time being I'll play with Ubuntu for a while, but may go back to tryng AROS in the future.

Ubuntu is actually quite sluggish on this old PC (Using it to type this right now and it's lagging badly lol)

Ubuntu is far too bloated to run on old PC's in a acceptable fashion. For old machines you want Antix, Puppy Linux or plain old Debian. Bodhi Linux is based on Ubuntu but stripped down a bit to suit older machines, it may run OK but you'd be a lot better off with Antix or Puppy.

Currently the best solution to take advantage of old PCs and AROS, light and fast. For the floppy drive is strange I as said I have no problem, anyway you can ask HERE and get more information.

Cheers. I will try AROS again at some point. I really have no "need" for this old PC so it's just fun to tinker with OS's I've shunned up until now.

HostBridge running on Linux Mint

I don't use AROS or Icaros, but videos that show Linux LibreOffice running on top/in front of the Icaros desktop make me want to try it out.
