uploading to the zone > file extensions

this afternoon when i tried uploading to the zone after it had been transferred it got rejected because it wasnt a zip! it was an adz (all my amiga images are adz) now i know its easy enuf to zip up the adz but why not accept adz in the 1st place and shouldn't it mention on the page which file extensions are allowed?

It was mention that only zip files were allowed in the previous version of the zone, I have forgotten to re-write it again, my fault.

Only zip files are supported cause:
- I can easily check the file integrity (upcoming version)
- I will be able to calc the CRC32 of the files inside the zip (upcoming version)

Zip sucks, why don't we use rar or ace as well? They are slower but better.

Want small compression??

Then here's what I suggest

Download 7-Zip and then download ZipMAX

Unzip ZipMAX into your 7-zip directory, edit the ini file for the maximum compress option, then all you have to do is drag-'n-drop your files into ZipMAX and hey presto, smaller zip files

@burseg: it's NOT one problem of compression... have you already try to read/check RAR or ACE files with php4 ?

Oh, I guess that's why it still did not cease to exist.

This debate happens every so often. There is always something newer and better coming along. Like RCK says, Zip is at least universal. The compression gain from newer variations is so minimal, it is far outweighed by the compatibility factor between platforms and software that supports zip files. How would I handle a 7-Zip file on my real Amiga? Or a rar file in clrmamepro?

Zip just reduces a zillion future issues.

Perhaps the more correct term would be that .zip files are the de-facto standard

The only thing that STILL sucks is that you have to zip every DMS you upload.
I plead for support of both ZIP and DMS.
(but only these two, though)

As we are here: you did change 'ko' to 'kB' indeed
Well, I didn't want to rush you with this. It was only supposed to be a sarcastic comment I made in the Zone because if the WHOLE world uses term 'A', the FRENCH would use term 'B'.
All the world says "bytes", but the French say "octets".
All the world says "computer", but the French say "ordinateur".
