AmigaOS 4 Buy, Steal or Ignore?
Ok we all know in its heydey, the Amiga suffered a huge amount of piracy.
Today, we all (mostly) have jobs - and cash... So should AOS4 be launched for Classic, and assuming it is guaranteed to run on your hardware, what will you do? Answers above please. (anon this time) |

I'm sorry to say that, but for now (yes, "for now", but I SO would like it to change...) I'd go for "ignoring"
Back then, we had no money, so we stole the soft... Now, we have the money, but there's no software... geez, even the hardware is hard/impossible to get :/ PS: Yeah, I know that people with an attitude like that are the one's to blame... |

Ya should never create polls like this especially on EAB... there are few Amiga users left with enough respect to act and think accordingly...
I will buy it and even if nothing else is done... it'll do enough for me with gcc etc... |

Unless I get compatbile hardware, it's not very relevant to my interests.

Or here for that matter... nor do I plan to get the right hardware, it would probably cost a fortune.

Why would I, or anyone, get slow, brutally overpriced, hardware so i can play ports of games i already played on a PC half a decade ago and have no interest in playing again, only slower.
Most of the PPC apps are ports too. And even then, not even remotely the applications that deliver a competitive, or acceptable for that matter, performance in 2007. |

I've got the hardware (A4000 + PPC) and I doubt OS4 will be hugely expensive, so I'll give it a whirl. If it is anywhere near as responsive as it is on an AmigaOne, then I'll be happy enough. |

It would appear that AOS4 may be officially DEAD.

The amiga whilst it was a brilliant machine is now well and truly dead in the water. If support for the platform started afresh then I would buy it, but in the current climate with little or nothing in the way of an advantage to me I would simply ignore it.

I'd ignore it.
To be honest I couldn't even tell you if it's been released yet or not. It's so far of the radar I wouldn't download it even if it did appear on some torrent site. |

Interest in the Amiga One or OS4 is almost purely European. Americans can give a rat's ass about a decrepit OS and dead computer.
