It has to be stated that " Why should RCK have to start creating member specific filter codes ? "
The option NOT to view certain areas of the board once you are signed in already exists. Most browse this board without signing in...Unless they are looking for specific group membership project updates. The members who create these example bad "tagging" posts are a mere half dozen, whereas the number their activity irrritates is far greater. It is far better to "raise the bar" on what is classed a fair OFF TOPIC than create a whole NEW set of coding & options for everyone to use to avoid those few Otherwise you are giving them a "Privilaged Outlaw" status, now maybe some that would be cool But then what if these same members post Serious topic's as at some time ALL of them have......what is the point on them being members ? |

I've got to admit I've wondered about all the recent threads... but I just choose to ignore them. As long as they aren't serious attacks and no ones enjoyment of this board is ruined I don't see the harm.
While it will be nice for me not to have to read all the silly subjects in the new threads list, I can imagine another part of this community will feel as though they've just had their recess cancelled. My first reaction to this thread was "about time", but after giving it more than a moments thought, I would say it's all in fun... no worries here. |

Erm One problem with your "Fredericks Off topic ignore" Uknown K
He has started & maintained serious OFF TOPIC threads for example his "Emulators that work well within Linux " thread Without that a lot of questions until then un- answered would have re-mained so Last edited by woody57; 10 June 2006 at 02:42. |

No offence Fred The Duck, I don't know you personally but find *some* of your posts funny
... but 1 serious post compared to 100 off topics Anyway, it's not about individuals. We have all been guilty of silly off topic posts, including myself of late. Actually who started the GAY thread.. bippym, a global mod |

Actualy DamienD Fred has started over 178 serious threads & made over 2000 serious posting replies
Because OFF TOPIC post count is removed from everyones total when the topic dies This whole thread is not to throw out everything a person has done because they tend to wade in humour It really is to stop the decline & raise the level of humour so MORE can look forward to it & enjoy the area as opposed to seeing who posted it & automatically turning their back on it. Those who mistakenly thought that certain words are now banned by now should realise this is not so...lets just wait & see what NEW off topic comes our way |

The OT proves, that many members aren't hooked on the Amiga but they enjoy their lifes. That is in my eyes much more important than to know how to program a BOB.
Keep the OT alive or let those people filter it if they want to. Cheers, Rick |

If someone doesn't want to see the word ghay again, filter OT and get over it! I find the OT threads funny and revitalizing! why censor OT? because we are talking about censorship here! I did not see anyone offended by ot posts! You can't spent all your life being serious....... |

Just divide the damn board into subsections... a bit like you need to join the zone to get files...
Amiga related topics - emulated Amiga topics are also tolerated (there is to be no non Amiga solutions suggested) Emulation - Everything except Amiga Emulation specific topics (run software to emulate this machine, Q&A, go ahead) Misc - Everything else... (care to socialise, do it here) bottom line, as with everything human, wasted energy is always poured into the unworthy... admins admin and users can be users or they can walk away... use common sense and make changes where neccessary... most people who have a problem with sensible change don't belong here or have out grown the board... you don't have to keep friends your entire human existance! |

It is true Keropi that this is censorship but NOT in the same way the entire topics of religion & politics are outright banned.
Having empathy for use of the lowest common denominator is fine but since most of the perps are well known to me and have all at one time or another, opened totally off topic boards {of which I was a member independant of EAB} I know their OFF TOPIC postings here are very tounge in cheek. They all know this board has limit's, they are testing to see how they can go before someone comments that its in "Bad taste" that is the payoff. Do you actually think any of them yourself included will stop posting in OFF TOPIC There will be the familiar moan about censorship, a touch of false indignation & things will just move on This is not the 1st time nor will it be the last that the question of one NON Amiga related area seemingly taking over the board, factualy it prooves that the EAB membership actually care about a variety of things beyond their own prefered specialities. Because without membership feedback over the bad as well as the good the board would just stagnate & that is why this thread is in Project EAB to preserve your comments as opposed to just Another OFF TOPIC sticky thread . |

yeah, some thread are humourous, but let's not miss the point that this is E Amiga B, so if one is looking for non amiga stuff, he has the whole rest of internet or real life to find it.
Off topic here is not the main stuff and while sometimes it has merit, it's not the main thing. Also because it HAS indeed merit, it's rightful of the board to offer it to everybody here, so, to encourage people who now understandably filters off OT, the OT section will be cleaned up some by the mods. |

What if the 'rate thread' feature was enabled so the masses could vote for threads to be relegated to the dustbin. Once a particular thread had x number of negative votes a mod could cull it. That way you can please most of the people, most of the time.
True, these posts are easy to ignore though I don't think being offended is the issue. Do you really want newcomers who are trying to get a feel for the place to see 20/30-something year olds repeatedly calling each other gay. Let's get real, it's hardly going to win anyone a Perrier Comedy Award. |
