Amiga Inc. sell classic games with built in emulator

http://www.amiga.com/news/index.php?art=29

Amiga Inc. approached me (or rather Thalion) recently to see if we were interested in selling our classic titles through them. They were only offering 25% of the $4.99 back to the authors. One author was interested but Amiga Inc. never replied.

Amiga Inc. said their Emulator would run on a variety of platforms...

If it's Winuae, then they should contact Toni wilen and ask for permission and monetary agreement.

Winuae is under GPL...

If it is winuae based i think there is something wrong with it.

I think they don't need to ask toni the permission ( even if they should at least let him know ), but at least they need to publish the source of the modified version.

I wonder, if Cloanto asked Toni for using WinUAE in their Amiga Forever bundle. Or if Sierra/Vivendi Universal asked the Dosbox programmer, they recently released some of their Quest series compilations with it.

Isn't the standard procedure to avoid GPL requirements to release a front-end closed source and just link program sources to CVS?

xvid/fmpeg/ffdshow had a lot of cheap assholes releasing their code as own media "encoders"

Well I've been wondering about the implications myself. The GPL is pretty strict about what you're allowed to do with GPL'd compoments without making your whole product GPL licensed.

I'm actually trying to buy one of those games right now just to see what they are, but so far I wasn't able to log into my new AmiPass account (which you have to do to check out from the shop). It won't accept my password and I haven't gotten my e-mail to change the password yet (requested it through the website).

Does anybody have a working account on there? I'm starting to think it's all fake.

Which very neatly sums up Amiga Inc I think.

Hooooo for crying out loud...

So I finally got an e-mail from my sign up.

A nice little e-mail with my e-mail address, my password in plain text and a login link with my mail and password as plain text GET parameters. Hooray.

Edit: Eh, still can't log in, I guess I will have to change the password after all. I guess they don't like some characters I used or something... Or it's all fake.

Okay, yeah, their system just can't handle passwords with special characters. Now I can finally see the payment methods, which are by credit card only. I don't think I want to give them credit card information.

Well I really loved that mail with my password both in plain text in the e-mail AND in the link, which is double lovely. Not that I used any valuable password with them, but it's still lovely.

Edit: The checkout page is actually encrypted and properly signed at least, but I'm still not sure I'd want to give them credit card information. No telling what they'll do with it.

@eLowar

Come on, only $9,999,995.01 to go after your order...

Comments over on a.org mentioned that F12 was used to exit, and this could be a sign that they are using DOS UAE. (I've never used DOS UAE, or Fellow so I don't know the key mappings...)
