back when you were doing Amiga games development were you using Amigas to develop on or did you cross compile using SNASM/PsyQ or similar?

Every game I did commercially was on a real Amiga except Putty Squad.

Premier Manager 3 was initially on Gremlins A3000 and then they bought an accelerator for my A1200.

Speris Legacy was a mixture of A1200 and A4000, with proof of concept stuff done on A500 (i.e. see if it was possible).

Putty Squad was WinUAE but I used someones real Amiga for proper playtesting.

I didn't tell John Twiddy just why it was I was intimately aware of his copy protection system and that coming up with an alternative would be no problem

Since i've been hijacking this thread to quiz our friendly resident cracker I guess I really ought to respond to the original subject matter.

Originally bought my A500 Batman pack in 1990. Managed to get myself a second hand A590 20mb hard drive quite soon after and started messing around with coding and cracking. I upgraded to an A1200 as soon as I could get one with a built in HD (which i guess would have been late 1992). Got hold of a modem around 1994 and that's where my scene activities started. Started my BBS probably around late 94 or early 95 i think it would have been. Upgraded to an A4000 shortly after that and was active till around 97-98ish.

guess that makes me an old timer... and yes i do feel old these days :-)

You laugh, but I remember saying that almost verbatim when my dad and I got our first 50 mb HDD for our 486 back in the day.

Then I remember saying that again when I got a CD-burner. "imagine storing like 600 floppies on one CD!"

Im an old timer really. I got my A500 back in 1990 for my 15th birthday after pestering my parents for months. All my school buddies had them and my old BBC Micro just didn't cut it any more. LOL

It went into storage (AKA a black bin liner in the garage) around 1994 and I dug it out again in June this year because I decided that WinUAE just wasn't the same as playing the real thing. Here are some pics of my Amiga being retrieved from the garage and tested.

First got my A500 in 1991 after i swapped with a mate for my Sega Megadrive! He used to come around with said A500 in bag during 1990 and used to leave it at my house most of the time anyway, decided it was too expensive renting mD games out let alone buying them! (I was still at school).
And the local school 'cracker' always had a Gola bag of the latest releases to X-copy, didnt fink i was doing any wrong doings honest guv!
Later in 1993 around Oct, got a CD32 for cheap of a friend for £200 who i went halfs with with the same mate i swapped my MD with, 3 months later he sold his half to me for £50! Got a SX1 and 8mb fast ram, kb, mouse and fmv unit in 94.
Years later got a cheap CDTV off ebay, still think its the coolest looking Amiga ever built!

Hmm, I think I made first contact with an AMIGA... say, when I was about 6 years old in 1996. Not exactly sure anymore, but my dad had an AMIGA 500. Later we had an A600. Still have both them, still working.
Not so much using them anymore, but that's another story. Always find myself going back in time, playing some "childhood" games.

Surely he would have done a search on your nick and found out you were in FLT? Or does he only know your real name?

I only communicated with John and Mark via my work email address and my real name.

I thought if they find out, probably best they figure it out AFTER the game is already done.

Although at the 11th hour, it was a Fairlight intro that was going to be hidden on the Putty Squad disks, but I chickened out.

Oldtimer here from `87 I had an a500 with 1mb. Sold it ages ago. But I re bought one and then a cd32.
Down the track sold the cd32.
I have recently got a gotek for my a500
I now have 3 a500s and am hoping actually dreaming to buy an a1200 with a CF card for whdload games.

Away from real amiga I'm constantly using emulation on pc. Ps3. Xbox1 xbox360 emulation is good but its not the same as a real amiga

I think I got my A500 in 1989 , got a broken A590 whichI took a punt on being a duff PSU about 2 years later .
Used it until 1995 when I started Uni , we used PCs , so the Amiga got put to one side.
Over the years have collected CDTV , A600 , A1200 and A1500 to go with the collection.

Now use basic A1200 to play games , but I did manage to get Music-X working on the A1200 , so may have another play sometime .

EDIT: To add , I do Tech Support at a Uni , but Macs and PCs just don't have the same effect for some reason ?

Dad bought an A1000 home from work around 87 or 88. Most friends still had 8-bits, and hadn't even heard of the Amiga at the time.

I remember being amazed by it compared to the BBC B we had, especially when seeing the likes of Deluxe Paint, Aegis Animator etc. Literally could not believe how good Marble Madness and Crazy Golf looked and sounded.

First upgrade I bought for it was a Cortex 4Mb Ram board so I could play F1GP - which sadly died.

Then bought an A1200 in 92, which is now in a Power Tower, complete with BPPC+BVision + PowerFlyer (Fast ATA Mk2 I think) - currently trying to get AmiKit 'real' working with CGFX...... Along the way it has had a Blizzard Mk2 1230/50, an Archos Overdrive and various IDE CD drives etc.

Played a lot of Serial linked Skid Marks and Gloom with an Amiga owning mate at Uni before getting PS1's :-)

Since then I have acquired a couple more A1200's, another 030(GVP) board and an 060(Blizzard), and a Squirrel SCSI attached CD-Rom. I may try and get a CD32 at some point!

Also along the way have probably had a fair few of Galahad's (amongst others!) cracked disks......
Now I have acquired originals of a lot of the cracks I used to have! (not to mention a tolerant Wife who puts up with it all....)

I now mainly use Macs at home, and PC's at work, but neither has ever really grabbed me in the same way the Miggy did in 87!

Just me purely being nosy but do you still work in the video games industry, in IT or something else completely?
