Alien Breed 3D higher-res
Has any kind of patch or hack been made available? I really like this game and think it's one of very few 3D FPS games on the Amiga that worked (let's not mention Fears ever. Not ever) but I've always been surprised there appears to be no high-res version as there was with Gloom.

Someone posted few days ago link to youtube clip with high resolution remake for PC. I think mixing high resolution textures with low resolution 2D enemies was not best idea.

I'm not aware of any hires patches for AB3D, which is a shame since it's unique to the Amiga and actually quite a bit of fun to play.

I don't think it's possible with Alien Breed 3D due to relying on the Copper for rendering (which is also what Gloom Classic did, though both Alien Breed 3D 2 and Gloom Deluxe use C2P routines that allow for 1x1 rendering).
I wonder if it's possible simply to port the AB3D 1 levels across to AB3D 2. |

AB3D uses a lores chunky 12-bit RGB screenmode created with the copper. This sets it apart from AB3D2, DOOM, Duke Nukem, etc which were built using paletted 8-bit graphics. I'm not familiar enough with C2P routines to say if they would produce usable framerates, but I'm willing to bet that an RTG port would be a heck of a lot easier than AGA with software C2P.
And of course it's possible, the question is if anyone with the correct skills is interested and motivated. Not everyone seems to be a huge fan of AB3D |

Now here's something:
http://www.amigareport.com/ar320/news11.html No date on it but I would guess 1996 or maybe 1997. Wonder whatever happened to it. |
