Anyone ever play Gremlins 2: The New Batch?

I always thought this was a pretty awful game, much too hard and unresponsive. But I found myself wondering what the later levels were like so I started playing using savestates.

To finish a level, you had to collect a key item (which in reality meant collecting a yellow letter token), and then proceed to the exit. The problem is, in my version, there doesn't seem to be a key item anywhere in level 4, so the exit doesn't open. Is this just a bug with my version?

I cant help you, but I agree. Remember when it was released, they made such a big fuss over the game, even sent my old man lots of goodies to stick in his shop. I never ever finished the first level, lol.

I played it as a kid, rented it. Only remember it was frustrating and I didn't complete it. But have then later (much later) seen a longplay of it instead

Nothing on Youtube other than a speedrun of the first level. It's been requested at RAG but no takers (unsurprisingly).

Of course it is in no way a good game, but it would have been at least tolerable if the difficulty was set lower. Maybe by topping up your lives to 7 at the beginning of each new level rather than giving you 7 for the whole game.

The game over music was one of my favourite pieces on the Amiga though. In fact the music overall wasn't bad.

Quite interesting that they choose this tune for the game over sequence. I wonder why...
There are a few trained versions out there, so I'll have a look if you can finish level 4 in any of them.

I've just tried a different version, (not a trained one) and there is a difference, there is an electric gremlin on level 4 on this version. The thing is, I still can't get the exit to open. Maybe you have to do something clever to kill the electric gremlin, but I still can't work it out

Just tested it : I got the the electric Gremlin and the exit (elevator) opened on level 4. I used this version : Gremlins 2 - The New Batch (1990)(Elite)[cr SKR][t +21 Subway]. You can find it on the EAB file server (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43633) in the folder 'TOSEC/Games/[ADF]/G'. Hope this helps.

Ah, I see. You have to use the phone weapon to capture the electric gremlin (of course, so obvious...), then the exit opens. It's nice that the crack menu tells you that, because it doesn't tell you that anywhere else in the game. And like I said, the first version I tried doesn't even have an electric gremlin!

Thanks for answering my question (and letting me know about the ftp!).

The phone weapon... Guess I was lucky so I had it at the time when the electric Gremlin appeared You are welcome and I hope you enjoy some stuff on the file server

All ADF versions I've tried is bad cracked (in game copy protection). In one version the exit door doesn't open even if you have the Gizmo box. In another
one there is a missing elivator on stage 2. And the missing eletric Gremlin on stage 4.

Anyway the SPS release works fine. So I just recorded a longplay as it was requested in this thread. Have a look:
