Paul Burkey

I would just like to say that Paul Burkey is an awesome developer! Ever since the Amiga days, he's produced quality games which were presented exceptionally well, as well as being highly addictive.

Peg-It was a puzzle game where you were given a board with little dudes on it. The goal of the game was to clear the board by making each of these little guys jump over someone else, thus removing the person they jumped over. You complete the level when everyone is cleared except for the last dude.
Yeah, my description sux, but it's great. It's the simplicity that makes this game so great.
Should you want to try it, you can find the Amiga version on Aminet at:
http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/a...?string=peg+it
The PC version is currently being developed. I can't wait for it
The PegIt homepage is at http://www.shoecake.com/pegit/index.html

Sneech, in the simplest terms is the game Snake mixed with Tron (the light cycles part ), but taken to new levels. Powerups, enemies, etc. It's great! This is one of the better known Paul Burkey games. Unlike other AMOS games, this one is actually playable and addictive!
The best way to experience this is by trying it yourself. It can be found at the sneech homepage, at http://www.sneech.org/
He claims it's not playable under emulation, but I just played it and it plays the same as a normal Amiga.

The Foundation series of games are Paul's best known games. Released commercially in the last few years (1998ish), I would best describe this game as Settlers done all over again
Although I was never a big fan of this game (I only ever played it on occasion), it was well received by magazines and Amiga users worldwide.
You can download a Foundation demo at the official homepage at http://www.shoecake.com/foundation.html

WordOMatic is a new development by Paul. To be honest, I don't find it terribly addictive. There's just something about it that makes me want to quit after playing for a few minutes. I have no idea what that may be though
You can download it at the official homepage at http://www.shoecake.com/wordomatic/index.html

And finally, BoXiKoN!! Apparently, this game started out as a subgame for "Fun To Learn: Maths" (not listed on HOL?!?), but I first played it on the AmigaDE (I should also add this was the ONLY game I ever played on AmigaDE ). This game is bloody spectacular! It's probably the simplest of all of Paul Burkey's games, but it's outstanding! If you start playing, you have a tendancy to play more than 1 game at a time. Add to this the fact that there's a high score table, and you've got a highly competitive game.
It can be best described as Tetris, but with a mouse. Basically you put pieces down in an attempt to make horizontal or vertical lines. That's it. It's so simple, yet so fun. My entire family plays this game regularly! (not as much play as Street Fighter though )
To play this game, you can either get yourself the AmigaDE package (seriously not worth it!), or you can download a 3 minute demo at the official BoXiKoN page at http://www.shoecake.com/boxikon/index.html
Being only 3 minutes, you can't rack up a really high score, although I've managed to get pretty high.
If I had an income flow (*sniff*...anyone care to donate to the Poor Poor Amigaboy fund?), I would definately register this game.

Should Mr Burkey happen to be lurking, I congratulate you!

Sneech is a great little game. I can't remember where I first found it, but it's been installed on my Work partition ever since!

I love being cruel to the AI snakes, namely making sure I get a huge length snake throughout the game, then covering the exit when it appears. Most of them die, leaving me to go through the exit

Happy

Hi,

I was told about this thread and thought I'd come and see what the fuss is about I was pretty shocked but happy to see so much detail about my past and present work.

I'm glad Sneech was referred to as one of the best games, it was certainly one of my favorites and still is; although I've not been able to play it properly for quite a few years. It was developed back when most of my friends were at Uni, I would code Sneech up in the week and at weekends we'd play it non stop. We would discuss ways of improving it and then come the following weekend we would have the new version ready to play! This went on for a year or more. It really got packed full of features, some were just a bit too silly but many of the ideas were pure genius (the work of many crazy minds ) It's a feature set that needs to be brought back. I hope to get the new version done soon (For PC and many other platforms) but it never manages to get to the top of my priority list. It does belong at the top but I don't want to take any shortcuts and have some development responsibilities that take up a lot of my time.

I'm also glad you liked BoXiKoN (Amigaboy, please contact me personally at paul@shoecake.com with your e-mail address and I'll send a passcode for the PC version, I wouldn't want anyone to have to buy the game twice.) The "Fun To Learn: Maths" game was the last project I did under the licenceware label through a company called Deja Vu Licenceware. I'm aware that a few copies were sold but I believe the company went under so I missed out on some much needed royalties at the time. It was a tough time for independent developers back then so I took some time out (almost 3 years) to do some formal programming studies (C Programming and Structured Program Design.) As soon as that was over I started writing much better code.. so PegIt and Sneech just popped out!

I can understand what you say about WordOMatic. It was the first game I designed specifically for PDA (with Stylus control) in mind, and also targeting the typical Pocket PC user (intelligent adults.) It has sold very well for Pocket PC and sold pretty poor on Desktop platforms

Anyway, big thanks for all the kind words... Cheers! (Paul)

I have always thought Sneech as the best Tron/Worm kind of game i have played.

Never knew the guy actually went on to do more, but no wonder.

Even that Peg-it looks quite excellent game and such like that i would have enjoyed a lot playing it back then.

For me Sneech is the best snake game I`ve seen. Really great!

And thanks for the lead to Peg-it. Like it too.

I tried it on my A1200 040. Alas it ends in a black screen after some intro pics with some foreign language text. The game is from 1993, so it isn`t compatible with newer hardware specs.
