Elite on Amiga was good, I used to play it to death on the BBC B, and the transition to Amiga was a big one.
Sound effects helped make the game as well, really sounded nice as you destroyed a Thargoid booming out of my HiFi speakers. |

Yeah, got it from TheBox (DRM did a stellar job there, then). Thought the program was OK, but really only contained about 10 minutes worth of content. The rest of it seemed to be constant re-iteration of the same facts for Channel 5's braindead audience.

OH GOD! @ the "reconstruction scenes" where the young Braben & Bell actors pretend to know what's going on with the screen and doing the tappetty-tap-tap on the keyboard...
aside that, cool show! Last edited by Shoonay; 25 August 2008 at 12:33. |

I was wondering where they got the scribbles on the notepads and if they were supplied by Braben and Bell or if the researchers created them?

I can't help but laugh at how programmers are portrayed in the movies and on TV like here. Programming is fast paced and interactive in a challenging way much like a computer game, a race against the clock, pressing the keys in the right order as fast as you can While Bell is tapping away, Braben is standing at his side coaching him; that's right! you got it! almost there! almost!!. Only thing missing is a victory scene where they break out in cheers while the screen flashes in bright colors. Success!
It was a nice documentary nevertheless, though a bit short. |
