Unhappy Matt Chat dead!

Matt is gone.

No, really. MattChat closed its doors.

Goddammit!!!

In a weird move he gave his channel on to Don Kurtz (who is fighting a major hangover and [ Show youtube player ]). It's not retro any more.

I hope Matt will find a necromancer's ancient (ASCII) tome in some digital dungeon that will resurrect MattChat. Maybe at http://www.armchairarcade.com/

So long and thanks for all the … chat.

P.S.: We'll miss you, man.

Wow...
That's really sad...

And replaced by someone who wastes (imho) space about "Twilight" on his first vid?

Well, I've unsubscribed....

Unfortunate...

Good luck with future ventures Matt...

Rewatched it. It's over the top. "Sparkly, well toned vampires"?

Yeah, right.

This is about Matt getting turned down for a youtube partnership.. I don't blame him for being annoyed - he has put a lot of work into something very unique and original - the histroy of gaming. It has interviews and interesting perspectives that would have been lost forever if not for his work. Nothing else comes close to his channel's content.

Yet he is turned down by Youtube, when idiots get partnerships.

Here is the program: http://www.youtube.com/partners

I wonder if there is anything we can do to help?

it's meant to be satire.

Even reading the last channel comment;

The trouble is, it's not particularly well delivered satire, and from the comments it seems a lot of people (unsurprisingly) are missing the joke and even unsubscribing.

Oh, I see. Good news!

The problem is I see this thread, watch the first few minutes of the vid and totally miss that it is (satire)!

The fact that it is quite believable as well!

Oh well, I fell for it. I guess the crazy Twilight stuff should have been a big wake up.

Tend to agree that it is some kind of 'satire', but it's not done properly (at least not in the context of what Matt has done before). Well, let's wait for the next episode then.

I think you can see Don fighting not to start giggling, every now and then.

"The old man" must be laughing his ass off by now.

EDIT: Now there's a "censored version"? What is he doing???

Actually, it's pretty funny and I enjoyed watching that. So relieved they've made it into a skit!!!

Matt quote reading his comments: "3..2..1.....unsubscibed" LOL!

Don's a good sport for taking the abuse - people are being too harsh with their comments but that kind of makes it even funnier!

I think perhaps they should have released the videos at the same time however. I still feel there is an element of truth with the partnership and donation plug right at the end. But it is a worth while cause and deserves donations.

Also, Twilight fans are not going to interested in Mattchat - so he isn't going to pick up subscribers from that crowd when they accidently watch his vid. They may start giving him thumbs down!

I am sure some of initial reactions led to the hysteria... Look at the title of this thread for example. When I first saw it, I actually thought the man was dead! Poor choice of words, and bad timing from authors too (waiting full week for follow-up episode).

I am glad everything is back to normal.

Hehe. Yeah, I mainly wanted something special to kick off the new year. I thought Don's first video was pretty funny, though he might have overdid it a bit at the start about how I wasn't appreciated and so on. I was really hoping for something more obviously tongue-in-cheek. Still, you'd have to be pretty thick to watch that whole episode and still think it was legit.

About the donations system, it's something I've been struggling with for a long time. I have to look at myself every now and then and wonder if I'm doing the right thing putting so much time and energy into a youtube channel. I originally started the show as an experiment; I wanted to see what youtube and video editing was all about and get the word out about my books. It was fun learning all that stuff and trying new techniques, refining the program, etc.

Eventually, though, it did start to get old, especially when I realized the show had stopped growing and that several folks who had started around the same time I did were soaring past me in subs and views (and of course getting partnerships). It's kinda hard to keep doing something when you feel like you've hit a plateau like that. It didn't help that my software is awful (Sony Vegas Platinum) and crashes all the time, adding all kinds of unnecessary stress (and hours and hours of extra rendering). I frankly have better things to do with my weekends than cuss and fume at a piece of software (that isn't even a CRPG!)

Hopefully I'll be able to collect enough money to get some better editing software and perhaps some odds and ends I've been wanting (particularly better lighting). Probably not realistic but who knows?

Youtube are scumbags. They'll give their support to someone who applies makeup and can hardly make a coherant sentence.... but when it comes to actually talking more than one paragraph it's too much for them!

Anyway, I thought you are brilliant at what you do Matt. You actually make the subject matter interesting and refreshed it in the bleak 2000's era (bring back the 80s and early 90s ). Infact you kinda sent me back there on numerous occasions, it was like you took us all on a journey back in time with your Delorean... Sigh.
