Your Amiga moments of 2018

As 2018 closes, I think it would be nice to share our favourite moments of the year that relate to the Amiga.

Things like buying hardware/software, discovering/completing a game, finding/discovering something Amiga related.

My list
Geting a TF-328
Geting a Gotek
Release of Worthy

What are yours? I look forward to reading.

I wrote my first game.

I made some small AMOS and Blitz Basic programs back in the day but didn't have the patience to finish a large project. I also couldn't find the Hardware Reference Manual in the library or any bookstore. 20 years and a C/assembly career later (which started out on my A1200) I've made a game which I stayed up late last night to "playtest" .

My 2019 goal is to sort out my Amiga pixel art skills, another dream I once had.

Started recording music modules thanks to WinUAE and EaglePlayer

I ripped them by myself or download those from modland / AMP if i'm not able to do the rip

Once the module is ripped i create a .WAV thanks to WinUAE recording

Then the next step is to create an .MP3 from the .WAV file i got

Last step is to listen to the MP3s i created this way through my little stereo

Got myself an Amiga 1000, 1081 monitor and 1010 disk drive. Had one back in the day which I wish I had never sold, but this is good too.

Have written some of the code that I just wasn’t good enough as a teenager to do. Maybe that’s more having the internet and modern editors and cross compiling that’s the difference, I don’t think I’m really smarter.

Maybe I’ll release a game in 2019. Maybe wishful thinking, but it’s good to have something to aim for.

Finally buying a 500 and then getting an ACA 500 plus to go with it and then while searching for games for it I learned of so many games that came out for the Amiga that i had never played or heard of.

I just finished upgrading my Amiga 1000, which I purchased along with a 1080 on eBay the year before. Here's what I did:

1. Upgraded Denise to support EHB
2. Removed the low-pass audio filter
3. Installed a dual-Kickstart / 68k relocation card
4. Installed a 68EC020TK accelerator card (68020/IDE-CF/8MB)
5. Installed a toggle switch to select the Kickstart ROM (since the card is inaccessible under the accelerator)

It came out really great, the only thing I'm missing is the ability to easily get data on to the CF card. I'm currently using Amiga Explorer (through Parallels on my Mac) via a USB-serial cable and null modem, which works, but is quite slow.

I didn't want to make any modifications to the case of the A1000, so in order to change anything I have to open the case.

I'll be glad to share any details.

Made the soundtrack of at least ten games for Amiga
(Block Off!, Worthy, Bomb Jack Beer Edition, Barbarian+, Amishion Impossible, Highway Sprint, plus two or three in progress) and for other platforms (Rockbot 1) using mod files!

- I released some new programs: RNOPDF, RNOEffects, Raffeli
- And updated some older programs: RNOComics, RNOWidgets, RNOInfoScreen, Chelp
- Some of the programs were nicely reviewed on Amiga Future mag
- Was organizing successful Amiga events: Saku 2018, Oulu Arts Night, Amiga stand at Vectorama 2018, Amiga stand at TubeKempele, and helped remote organzing an Amiga stand at Game Över 11
- Met Mike of Cloanto at Saku 2018
- Arranged new cool t-shirts for our user group
- Releases of MorphOS 3.10 and 3.11 updates, and I wrote a small review of the 3.10 update
- First version of Odyssey with Javascript JIT compiler was released
- Got a new modern e-mail client for MorphOS (Iris), it also gets frequent updates which is nice
- Release of Hollywood 7.1 and many new plugins
- Release of Worthy, a truly worthy game, which I bought and spread information, for example, by organizing a game competition on it at Saku 2018. The winner got a boxed copy of the game.
- AmiKit X with the Dark Mode was released and it included one of my programs. I gave a public presentation of it at Saku 2018 too, and raffled a free copy of it for a lucky visitor
- Release of the Tower 57 game, a great "modern retro" game for NG Amigas
- The Amiga Years book was finally released, and we also got some other nice Amiga books
- Release of the The Commodore Story movie, watched this on the bigscreen at Saku 2018

I probably forget many other nice things, but altogether a very busy and great year to be an Amiga hobbyist, and daily user!

Finally got a transparent case for my A1200, with funky internal remote controlled LED lights.

Bought several A500s, improved fixed and sold A500s

Now have Amiga money burning a hole in my pocket awaiting new black keys, probably some time in 2020......

Bought my first boxed Amiga game, only 26 years too late. Bought another three.

Well, I kinda gave the kickstart to the Amiga games development contest. Most of my year I was suffocated by a completely crazy working routine, so I didn't see it flourishing. I gave the Idea, begun organizing donations then I left. When I went back I saw everything went forward quite incredibly well, and I am *very* happy about it.

And now I just released my 3rd amiga game, Santa Chaos. It took me just 4 late nights to do it, but it was pretty fun

My 2018 Amiga moments? My very close friend, who had been organizing November Amiga parties for 22 years, died in May. Finally, we managed to keep his heritage going on and the party tradition continues in his name.

In June I got married and the wedding ceremony music was the song from Turrican II intro.

In August I organized Bubble Bobble Amiga party, which was very successful.

I managed to add almost 140 games to Lemon Amiga this year. I am not very satisfied with this amount, but it is at least something. I also took part in EAB / Lemon competition, several rounds.

I bought some new and some old Amiga games, I supported few Amiga games developers and finally Starquake with my intro graphics got released.

Overall - my Amiga enthusiasm doesn't decrease, which is the most important aspect.

I fixed my CD32 by changing the laser, all by myself

With great help from Toni Wilen, I released several enhanced games for the CD32, with CD music + original sfx.

Also fixed a lot of whdload buggy slaves, as I've been doing for 20+ years now.

I started my personal project about demoscene called ADA (Amiga Demoscene Archive)

I know, projects like this one already exist, but the fun i have doing it by myself is incomparable

I really hope i will have the time to make it bigger as possible

I discovered that there was a community around Amiga which ignited my Amiga interest again after 25 years. I took my old A3000 out from storage and got it up and running with 3.1.
