C64 mods (sexy switches and whatnot)
I finally settled down and completed the wiring and surface mods to my C64. I refused to use crappy switches and shopped around for rather nice machined steel switches. I'm pretty happy with the result.
One is a latching switch for JiffyDOS, and the other is a momentary to trigger a reset. I used wiring harnesses to facilitate easy disconnect of the add-on wiring, and stuffed the reset circuit into a 3D-printed box that contains a tiny solder breadboard. Next up when I have time: the C64's PSU fried itself years ago, and I've been using some standalone 5VDC/9VAC sources to power it when needed, but I've drawn up a plan to put a 5VDC/12VDC & 9VAC sources into a custom case, which will also have a custom C64 A/V cable as well. The end result will be a single box that has C64 power, C1541-II power (if needed, that cable will plug in or be detached as needed), and an A/V cable in utilizes a 5-conductor coaxial cable and splits out the signals to audio, composite video, and s-video, including the addition of a 330-ohm resistor to help make the video signal less noisy. At least that's the plan. I need to get my Amiga 500 mods finished up first, though. |
